Ropa Nueva New Clothes

“y revestido del nuevo, el cual conforme a la imagen del que lo creó se va renovando hasta el conocimiento pleno…”
Colosenses 3:10

Dios no está interesado en ayudar a los hombres a mejorar o a cambiar. Él está interesado en algo mucho más profundo y mejor. Él quiere hacer nuevas criaturas de hombres muertos. Él está interesado en la regeneración, no en la mera reforma, como muchos suponen.

Una de las cosas que vemos en este pasaje es que Pablo dice que debemos quitarnos el hombre viejo y ponernos el hombre nuevo. Eso es imposible si no es por el Espíritu de Dios. Sería ridículo quitarnos la ropa vieja para no ponernos la ropa nueva, pero es lo que intenta hacer el mundo en el plano espiritual. Como iglesia no nos deben interesar aquellos cambios que no sean producidos por Dios y su palabra. La carne sólo puede producir algo carnal pero el espíritu da vida a lo espiritual. Pablo se refiere a algo que transforma nuestras vidas y nuestro mundo pero que únicamente ocurre cuando el Espíritu obra usando la palabra de Dios. La letra mata, mas el espíritu vivifica. Mientras estudiamos la palabra de Dios no buscamos entender un simple dogma. Esperamos que Dios haga una obra grande en nuestros corazones. Nada menos será suficiente. Necesitamos un cambio de esta magnitud en nuestras vidas y en nuestras iglesias. Debemos ser transformados a la imagen y semejanza de Cristo.

Me gusta lo que dijo A.W. Tozer: “Cien personas religiosas entrelazadas por cuidadosas organizaciones humanas forman una iglesia tanto como once hombres muertos forman un equipo de fútbol americano. El primer requisito es, siempre, la vida”. Es cierto. Estoy apenado, por ejemplo, por el clima espiritual que he visto en los Estados Unidos. Cada año empeora más. Y al mismo tiempo las iglesias anuncian que van a tener reuniones de oración ¡una vez al mes! ¿Qué está pasando? No hay vida. No hay hambre de la palabra y cuando no hay hambre es una señal de enfermedad o muerte.

Una de las cosas que estamos enfatizando aquí en Koinonia Surco es la necesidad de pasar tiempo con Dios todos los días. Necesitamos esa hambre de Él. Debemos prestar atención a lo que nos dice. Tenemos que vestirnos de su palabra como si fuera ropa nueva. Quiero animar a todos los que leen este blog a separar tiempo cada día para poder escuchar la voz de Dios. Quiero animarlos a escribir un párrafo o dos acerca de los que Dios les ha hablado o mostrado. Escriban sus peticiones y dejen a Dios guiar sus pasos diariamente. Comiencen a orar con todo el fervor que tengan. Oren tan frecuentemente como les sea posible. No bastan las oraciones en la iglesia una vez al mes o una vez a la semana. Leer la palabra de Dios tres o cuatro veces a la semana tampoco es suficiente. Necesitamos vida. Necesitamos transformación. Y eso sólo viene de Dios.




“and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him…” [1]
Colossians 3:10

God is not interested in helping men become better. He’s not interested in changing man. He’s interested in something much deeper and better. He’s interested in making new creations out of dead men. God is interested in regeneration, not reformation as most people understand it. One of the things that we see in this passage is that Paul tells us that we’re to take off the old man and put on the new one. This is impossible without the Spirit of God. It’s ridiculous to take off your old clothes without putting new ones on but that’s what the world does spiritually speaking. So the first thing we see is that as a church, we’re not interested in changes that are not brought about by God and His word. Flesh gives birth to flesh and nothing more but spirit gives birth to spirit. Paul is talking about something here that transforms our lives and our world. It can only be done by the Spirit working through the word of God. The letter of the law kills but the Spirit gives life. As we study Gods word, we’re not seeking to understand simple dogmas. We desire for God to do a great work in our hearts. Nothing else will do. We must have this in our lives and in our churches. We must become transformed into the image of Christ.

I love what A.W. Tozer said, “One hundred religious persons knit into a unity by careful organizations do not constitute a church any more than eleven dead men make a football team. The first requisite is life, always.” This is so true. I am deeply grieved when I hear about what is happening in the U.S. for example. Each year we see the spiritual climate of the U.S. worsening and worsening. At the same time we see the churches announcing that they have pray meetings once a month! What’s happening? There is no life. There is no hunger for the word and when there is no hunger, it’s a sign of sickness or death.

One of the things that we’re emphasizing here in Koinonia Surco is the necessity of spending time with God in His word each day. We need this hunger for Him. We need to pay close attention to what He tells us. We need to take His word and put it on like a set of new clothes. I want to encourage each person that reads this blog to write a paragraph or two each day. Write what God has spoken to you about. Write down your prayer requests and let Him guide your steps. Start to pray fervently. Pray with others as frequently as you can. Prayer meetings once a month or once a week in the church will not do. Reading God’s word 3 or 4 times a week will not do. We need life. We need transformation. They can only come from God.
