¡No Seas Malo! Don´t Be Bad

"Vestíos, pues, como escogidos de Dios, santos y amados, de entrañable misericordia, de benignidad, de humildad, de mansedumbre, de paciencia;" Colosenses 3:12

Ayer comenzamos a vestirnos de acuerdo a lo que enseña Pablo en el capítulo tres de Colosenses. La primera prenda que nos hemos puesto es la compasión o entrañable misericordia, como la llama la versión Reina Valera 1960. Lo importante es que debemos seguir las instrucciones de Pablo para vestirnos completamente o, como también lo explica en Efesios, para que podamos llegar a la perfección y estar listos para toda buena obra. Por ello, no basta una sola prenda, aunque todas son necesarias.

La siguiente prenda es la benignidad. Generalmente pensamos que la benignidad se refiere a la persona que se lleva bien con todos y nunca dice una palabra dura. Pero Pablo habla aquí de otro concepto. El habla de la integridad y la excelencia moral. Esto es muy importante para nosotros como cristianos. Tenemos que comprender que habrá momentos cuando estaremos tentados a confundir el asunto. Los amigos intentarán convencernos de que debemos hacer algo que no sea correcto y e incluso ilegal. Cuando rechacemos la idea, dirán que somos malos, que no somos buenos amigos y que no tenemos benignidad. Nuestro mundo está tan confundido y perdido que los conceptos y las palabras que fueron entendidos de un modo en el pasado ahora han cambiado y ya no significan lo mismo.

Para los cristianos, la benignidad tiene que ser entendida a la luz de las Santas Escrituras y de nuestra relación con Dios. La benignidad comprende la gracia de Dios y su santidad a la misma vez. Ser una persona santa y santificada, una persona separada por y para Dios es la mejor manera de demostrar su benignidad a un mundo torcido. Aparte de Dios, la benignidad no lleva fruto.


"Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering…" Colossians 3:12

We put compassion on yesterday and it sure felt good. The New King James Version calls it tender mercies. We want to continue Paul’s instructions today so that we will be fully clothed or as Paul mentions in Ephesians, so that we can be complete, prepared for every good work.

The next piece of clothing on our list is kindness. Generally speaking, when we think of kindness we think of the person that gets along with everyone and never says a harsh word. Paul is really talking about putting on integrity here. He’s talking about moral goodness. This is so important for us as Christians to understand because there will be times when we will be tempted to confuse the issue. Friends will come and will try to get us to do something that isn’t right. Maybe even something illegal or unethical. When we refuse they will accuse us of being bad. They’ll say that we’re not a true friend and that we’re being unkind. Our world is so confused and so lost that those concepts and words that were understood in the past have now changed in meaning.

Kindness for us as Christians must be understood in the light of scripture and in our relationship with God. Kindness is understood in the light of God’s grace and holiness. Being a holy and sanctified person, a person set apart for God is the best way to show kindness in this twisted world. Apart from God, our kindness will not bear fruit
