El Festival The Festival

This morning we’re praying for the Children’s Festival in the church this evening. Our desire is to take advantage of this opportunity and reach more children and adults with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We’re praying for changed lives. Let’s pray for the children of the church and the children of Peru. I really desire to see Jesus Christ working more and more in our country.

Don't Be Afraid No Teman

Don’t Be Afraid

As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, "Let's cross to the other side of the lake." He was already in the boat, so they started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). But soon a fierce storm arose. High waves began to break into the boat until it was nearly full of water. Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. Frantically they woke him up, shouting, "Teacher, don't you even care that we are going to drown?" When he woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the water, "Quiet down!" Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. And he asked them, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still not have faith in me?" And they were filled with awe and said among themselves, "Who is this man, that even the wind and waves obey him?" Mark 4:35-41

Whenever Jesus is revealed in a new way, he has to tell the disciples not to be afraid. (Matt. 8:26, 14:27, 17:7, 28:10, Mk. 4:40, 5:36, 6:50, Lk. 5:10, 8:50, 12:32, Jn. 6:20, 12:15, 14:27) Too often we simply think of Him as "gentle Jesus, meek and mild." But this is only a small facet of His infinite character. If we look closely at the gospels, we will see that those who were closest to Jesus we often terrified by His power, so frightened were they that He had to continually tell them, "don't be afraid." If He is the same yesterday, today and forever, where has this terrifying aspect of His nature gone? He is no less powerful now than He was then. What has become of this "disturbing presence" of Jesus?

No Teman

¿Cómo no tenéis fe?

And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour? I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me? If the dead do not rise, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!” 1 Corinthians 15:30-32

Most of us are so concerned about living comfortable lives here on earth that our lives give no evidence of the resurrection. Paul lived such a committed Christian life; people could look at him and say, “There is no way he would live like that unless there was a reward waiting for him in heaven.” Pastor Jon

Pastor Jon.
You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. Trust in the LORD forever, For in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength. Isaiah 26:3-4

No podemos hacerlo solos.

We were speaking with a mission’s pastor the other day. We talked about the idea of forming a small business to help provide for the needs of the ministry, the people of the church and those that desire to serve the Lord in other areas of Peru. The pastor was very enthusiastic hearing about all of this. He confirmed that it is something we should do. We have to really put our best foot forward in this. The ministry is growing and we don’t want to depend on other countries more than necessary. We want to rely on the Lord as we always have but allow Him to use our strength, the creativity He gives us and the determination He supplies as well. Pray that the Lord will open doors for us as a church.

Pray for the provision necessary so that we will be able to finish the building in Puente Piedra. We still need more money to finish the project.

Pray for more workers for the ministry. Pray for more Peruvian leaders and more foreign missionaries.

While we’re here in the States we’re praying to be a blessing for the people here, please the Lord in all we do and make more contacts as well. The coming weeks will be very important in regard to this. I wouldn’t speak this way if it weren’t for the fact that we know that God has called us to serve Him faithfully, reaching Peru with the gospel. We can’t do it alone. We know that with the Lord’s help and with the help of our brothers in the faith we can do it. We won’t rest until all of Peru has heard the good news. Brothers, there is much to be done. Holy Spirit, fill us with yourself!

Nuestro Pan Diario Our Daily Bread

If we can trust in God when He promises us eternal life, we can trust that He'll give us our daily bread.
Psalm 108:12

Give us help from trouble, For the help of man is useless. Through God we will do valiantly, For it is He who shall tread down our enemies

We have the tendency to trust in and look to men when we have to face problems and troubles. It’s so important to remember today that God is the one that can help us and that the help of man is not only not is good, it’s useless. God desires to not only help us, he even desires that we do valiantly. May God go before you today.

Salmo 108:12

Dios no solo desea ayudarnos sino ayudarnos hacer proezas. Dios que vaya delante de ti hoy.

Chris and Elaine

.

A good experience… I left Jack and Susan’s house to do a little exercise. While walking I saw a rattlesnake skin on the side of the road. About a half hour later I was walking along side a river and I saw a big alligator. It was marvelous. That was a great walk.

I shared from God’s word on Wednesday night at Calvary Chapel Orange Park Florida. Mi friend Chris Friedrich is pastoring the church there. It was good to see some friends that we haven’t seen in three years. I really love Pastor Chris but we’re getting old and weren’t able to keep up our routine. We only talked until 2:00 a.m. Normally we talk until three when we get together but this year I had to cut it short and go to bed. We spent a good part of yesterday morning with Chris and his wife Elaine. They’re just awesome people. Chris in known as one of the problem pastors in Florida but I know him well and I know that he’s just very concerned about what’s happening in a lot of the churches just like me.

Last night we went to Robin and Tracy’s house. They’re some friends from Boynton Beach that are planning to move to Peru in June of 2007 as missionaries. The idea is to work with us in Koinonia for about 2 years and then move to another area of Peru and start a church. Just like Jack and Susan, they’re raising financial support for their ministry. We’re praying for them as well as Jack and Susan because we know that they’ll be a great blessing for everyone.

This afternoon we have a meeting with a pastor here in Florida and this evening we’ll be at J.P. and Heather’s house. J.P. is assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel Miami Beach. They’ve offered to invite people to their house so that we can share regarding what God is doing in Peru.

God willing I’ll be writing some more tomorrow.

Estos días These Days

Sorry that I haven’t written anything the last few days. I was up in north central Florida spending time with a few friends, meeting with some pastors and attending a men’s conference. I taught at Calvary Chapel Gainesville on Sunday morning. What a great few days. It was great to see the Cousino’s and Dot Steitz. They’re friends from my Salvation Army days. I saw Frank Muñoz on Sunday afternoon also. We were so happy to see each other. Keep praying for us as we travel raising awareness and support for the ministry in Peru. Here are a few pictures of what’s been happening the last few days.

El Secreto de Un Amigo The Secret Of The Lord

El Secreto de Un Amigo

Salmo 25:14

Oswald Chambers

The Secret Of The Lord
” The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him…” - Psalms 25:14
What is the sign of a friend? That he tells you secret Sorrows? No, that he tells you secret joys. Many will confide to you their secret sorrows, but the last mark of intimacy is to confide secret joys. Have we ever let God tell us any of His joys, or are we telling God our secrets so continually that we leave no room for Him to talk to us?
At the beginning of our Christian life we are full of requests to God, then we find that God wants to get us into relationship with Himself, to get us in touch with His purposes. Are we so wedded to Jesus Christ’s idea of prayer - “Thy will be done” - that we catch the secrets of God?
The things that make God dear to us are not so much His great big blessings as the tiny things, because they show His amazing intimacy with us; He knows every detail of our individual lives.

Jesús Estará Regresando Jesus Will Be Returning

(Seiss)

This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven. Acts 1:11b

Christ has not gone to heaven to say there. He has gone for the church’s benefit; and for his church’s benefit he will return again.” (Seiss)

Mil forgiveness Perdóname a lot

Forgive me. I don't do it on purpose. NO lo hago al proposito. No me doy cuenta. Intentaré hacerlo mejor en el futuro.

They've told me that at times I write in English in the blog but I put words in Spanish in there. Forgive me. I don't do it al proposito. NO... LO QUE QUIERO DECIR ES...I MEAN THAT, I DON'T DO IT ON PURPOSE. I'll try to do mejor (better) in el futuro (the future.)

Haciendo Ajustes Changes

Haciendo Ajustes.

Adjusting

When we got to my parents house Priscilla (4 years old) was a little confused. She went to the bathroom and didn’t know what to do with the paper afterwards because there was no garbage can on the side of the toilet. (Those of you that have been to Peru will understand). Betty told her to just throw the toilet paper in the toilet. Priscilla asked, “Why, don’t they have garbage cans here?”
In Peru we throw the toilet paper in a garbage can because our pipes aren’t designed to dispose of paper.

This evening the people of Koinonia Lima and the people of Koinonia Cañete meet for prayer. Let’s pray for the marriages in the church, for more workers and for provision to be able to finish the building in Puente Piedra and to purchase a building for the church in Cañete. Let’s pray for Angie while she’s on her missions trip to Cajamarca too.

If you’re reading this message in the morning it would be good to pray for the ministry in Playa Hermosa this afternoon too. Pray for David because he’s sick and as far as I know the doctors don’t know what’s wrong with him yet. He’s been having a high fever.

We went to Calgary Chapel Venice Florida yesterday in the morning. I shared on the topic of missions in the service. We met some new people and we had a good time with everyone. It was good to see Pastor Bob, his wife and his daughter Robin in the morning. We’re a little sad that Troy couldn’t make it. Last night we went to spend some time with some friends in Fort Myers. We spent time with Pastor Chris and met his wife Donna. You can find the pictures below.

Another thing is that it’s been a little difficult getting used to the life here in the States. Some things have changed. We went to the market on Saturday night because we had to buy a few things. We were scared when we saw the cashier, we went to her and she told us that we had to scan the products ourselves. We did it and the machine talked to us. It told us that we had to put the products in the plastic bag after scanning them and then it told us to pay buy depositing the money in a certain place. We were so surprised and lost. Obviously everyone looked at us as if we were from Mars. I’ve also noticed something strange. Being in public places here, I’ve heard a lot of people speaking English here. It surprises me all the time when I hear people speaking English in public.

Carlos Spurgeon

Consecration
It may be difficult for the average Christian to get hold of the idea that his daily labors can be performed as acts of worship acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. We must practice living to the glory of God actually and determinedly. By one act of consecration of our total selves to God we can make every subsequent act express that consecration. By meditation upon this truth, by talking it over with God often in our prayers, by recalling it to our minds frequently as we move about among men, a sense of its wondrous meaning will begin to take hold of us. The New Testament accepts as a matter of course that in His incarnation, our Lord took upon Him a real human body. He lived in that body here among men and never once performed a non-sacred act! Brethren, we must offer all our acts to God and believe that He accepts them. We should then keep reminding God in our times of private prayer that we mean every act for His glory. We thus meet the temptations and trials by the exercise of an aggressive faith in the sufficiency of Christ!

El Aeropuerto The airport

I took this picture in the airport in Lima yesterday before we got on the plane. Everyone was happy.

Ya llegamos We've arrived

Llegamos a Florida anoche.

We got to Florida last night. This morning we're making some contacts and confirming some appointments. We're getting ready for tomorrow too. For those of you that are praying for us... Thanks alot. We sense your prayers and we're trusting in the Lord. I'll be putting some photos on the blog in the next few days. We got here at 5:30 p.m. and it was 32 degrees out. I'm talking celcius of course. About 88 degrees fahreinheit. What heat! And with a lot of humidity too. I told my mom that she didn't have to turn the oven on for us!

El Viaje The Trip

1 Tesalonicenses 4:17

1 Thessalonians 4:17
Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
[1]

We’re preparing for the trip to the United States. With three children, a trip like this requires a lot of planning. We’re thinking about the clothes, the DVD´s, the Bibles, the books and a lot more. Seeing everything that Betty has done to get ready for the trip makes me think about the rapture. The Bible explains that in the moment that Jesus calls us, we’ll go with Him. Many Christians tend to think, “We won’t be able to take anything with us.” I’m thinking a little different today. I’m thinking, “We won’t have to take anything with us and that’s great! We only have to get there. The tickets have already been paid by Jesus. He has made all of the plans and right now He’s finishing up with the last preparations. Not taking anything with us isn’t a curse. It’s a blessing. Are you ready? It’s gonna be great!

Hechos 1:11 De Nuevo Acts 1:11 Again

We get at times into a sad state of mind, because we do not see the kingdom of Christ advancing as we desire. I suppose it is with you as it is with me,—I begin to fret, and I am deeply troubled, and I feel that there is good reason that I should be, for truth is fallen in the streets, and the days of blasphemy and rebuke are upon us. Then we pine; for the Master is away, and we cry, "When will he be back again? Oh, why are his chariots so long in coming? Why tarries he through the ages?" Our desires sour into impatience, and we commence gazing up into heaven, looking for his coming with a restlessness which does not allow us to discharge our duty as we should. Whenever anybody gets into that state, this is the word, "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?"
Carlos Spurgeon

We didn’t go to Chinatown on Monday. We’ll have to wait until we return from our trip. I know that some of you were waiting to see the pictures, especially some of those of you that don’t live here in Peru. In the meantime, here’s a few pictures that someone else took. The first photo is a little dark but you can get the idea of the "barrio".

Meditating on Acts 1:11 with Spurgeon Meditando en Hechos 1:11 con Spurgeon

Religion never ought to become the subject of selfishness, and yet I fear some treat it as if its chief end was spiritual gratification. When a man's religion all lies in his saving his own self, and in enjoying holy things for his own self; there is a disease upon him. When his judgment of a sermon is based upon the one question, "Did it feed me?" it is a swinish judgment. There is such a thing as getting a swinish religion in which you are yourself first, yourself second, yourself third, yourself to the utmost end. Did Jesus ever think or speak in that fashion? Contemplation of Christ himself may be so carried out as to lead you away from Christ: the recluse meditates on Jesus, but he is as unlike the busy self-denying Jesus as well can be. Meditation unattended with active service in the spreading of the gospel among men, well deserves the rebuke of the angel, "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?"

Cena Agape Agape Dinner

We had an Agape dinner in the church tonigh. It was good because some new people showed up and we ate good. We shared the word and had a good time in fellowship. I've been trying to put more photos up but it seems that the blog is having some problems with their system. Can't complain too much because this program is free. Maybe I'll put some more pictures on the blog tomorrow if blogspot will let me.

Fred said it. Lo dijo Fred

10 Toes 10 Dedos de Pies

I admit the value of the study of the feet of the image in Nebuchadnezzar's vision, and the importance of knowing the kingdoms which make up the ten toes, but I do not see the propriety of allowing such studies to overlay the common-places of practical godliness. If the time spent over obscure theological propositions were given to a mission in the dim alley near the good man's house, more benefit would come to man and more glory to God. I would have you understand all mysteries, brethren, if you could; but do not forget that our chief business here below is to cry, "Behold the Lamb!" By all manner of means read and search till you know all that the Lord has revealed concerning things to come; but first of all see to it that your children are brought to the Savior's feet, and that you are workers together with God in the upbuilding of his church. The dense mass of misery and ignorance and sin which is round about us on every side demands all our powers;

Reconozco el valor que hay en estudiar los pies de la imagen de la visión de Nabocodonosor y lo importante que es este conocimiento de cuales son los reinos que son representados en los diez dedos de pie, pero no lo veo correcto permitir a estudios así reemplazar la vida piadosa en lugares comunes y corrientes. Si el tiempo que gastan hablando de proposiciones teológicas poco claros sería dado a una misión en un callejón oscuro cerca de la casa del hombre piadoso, más beneficioso seria para el hombre, y Dios recibiría más gloria. Me gustaría que entendieran todos los misterios si fuera posible hermanos, pero no se olviden que nuestro negocio mas importante aquí es clamar, “¡Aquí tienen al cordero de Dios!” De todas maneras lean y estudien y busquen hasta que logran entender todo lo que El Señor ha revelado acerca de su venida; pero primero, aseguren que sus hijos están siendo llevados a los pies del Señor. Aseguran también que son obreros juntos con Dios en la edificación de Su iglesia. La oscuridad inmensa, la miseria, ignorancia y pecado que esta alrededor nuestro demanda todos nuestros poderes;

Pray for our friend Mey Wey. She's my children's Chinese teacher. She's getting to be a good friend too. This morning she invited us to go eat a special dessert that she made for their holiday celebrating the full moon. It was delicious but the best part was that Betty was able to share a little more of the good news with her. Being Buddhist, she doesn't understand much about the Christian faith but she's always asking questions. She has a Bible in Chinese and Spanish and says that she reads it sometimes.

Little by little we're getting to know a good number of Chinese people here in Lima. God willing I'm going to take my children to Chinatown here in Lima on Monday so they can practice their chinese and learn to appreciate the Chinese culture a little more. Who know where all this will end?
If we go on Monday, I'll put some pictures in the blog.

This weekend we´ll be enjoying a lot of Koinonia.

Saturday we have our ministry in Villa Maria at 5:00 p.m.

Saturday the women will be having "lonche" at 6:00 p.m. We´ve heard that some of the women are inviting friends that don´t know the Lord. That´s great.

Sunday we have our normal Bible Study at 10:00 a.m. The group that ministers in Puente Piedra will be starting the study there at 3:30 p.m. because that´s the new starting time.
At 7:00 p.m. we´ll be having an Agape dinner. We´re encouraging everyone to bring a plate (with food). That way we can all share and try everyone´s flavor. We´re encouraging everyone to bring a friend that doesn´t know the Lord or that doesn´t fellowship at a church. If some of you can show up a little early to help with the set up that would be great too.

Vecinos, Enemigos Neighbors, Enemies

“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ…”- 1 Peter 1:6-7

The prevailing state of our mind should be great joy - ‘In this you greatly rejoice.’ Have you got at the Gospel at all if you have not great joy, if it does not every day make you glad? Our joy comes from a great Fountain - Christ Himself. Are you a disciple? Then can you bear to live below this standard?
In spite of this joy you may be ‘grieved by various trials.’ Indeed, it is your great joy that enables you to bear them. What is the trial of faith? It is the outward pressure of circumstances, the waves dashing upon you as you stand on the Rock of Ages. Christ was tried. He was the crystal vessel, full of the purest water, and Satan was allowed to shake it to see if there was any mud in it, and there was not.
The trial of faith came to Abraham in a strange way, threatening to bereave him of his beloved son. Abraham stood the test, and went on step by step till God said, ‘Now I know that you fearest Me,’ etc., and the trial ended in ‘praise, and honour, and glory.’ The ‘trial of faith’ may come in disappointment in those we trusted in; it may come directly from the devil it may come from the state of the church; it may come from persecutions, bonds, imprisonments. It is quite natural to feel these trials. Down in the trough of the wave, then up again on the crest; that was Paul’s experience. Then it is only ‘for a season.’
God’s deep interest in the trial of faith
He says it is much more important than the goldsmith’s trial of his gold. It is said that the goldsmith waits till he sees his face reflected in the gold, then he knows it is ready to be taken out. If we had seen with what intense interest the Father watched His beloved Son when He was ‘tried’ on the mount of temptation and on Mount Calvary! So with the members of His body.
It is said, ‘Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints,’ and the word is literally ‘deathpangs’ - what they may be suffering at the time of their death. The Lord watches them with intense interest. You have multiplied trials; are you murmuring? Do you say ‘It is very hard’? Would you say that to God? He is standing by and saying, ‘See how faith sustains this disciple of mine!’ Catch His eye, and you will be able to bear the ‘trial.’
The result of this process
‘Found to praise, honor, and glory ‘ It will be to God’s praise and honour and glory, for we will see that all His ways are excellent. An old Puritan says, ‘A stick in the water looks crooked. Take it out, and it is quite straight.’ So it will be when we look at God’s dealings with us. When we see all, we will say of our bitterest sorrows that it would have been unkind in God not to have sent them.
But it will be to our praise and honour and glory too. Angels will serve us all the more willingly because we never permitted a doubt or surmise of God’s love to enter our mind. We shall have the greater glory, the more we have borne the trial of our faith. We are to be rewarded, not only for work done, but for burdens borne, and I am not sure but that the brightest rewards will be for those who have borne burdens without murmuring. Are you not often saying, ‘Oh, that that day would arrive, when God will reveal His Son Jesus Christ!’
On that day He will take the lily that has been growing so long among thorns and lift it up to the glory and wonder of all the universe, and the fragrance of that lily will draw forth ineffable praises from all the hosts of heaven.

John Piper

The nature and depth of human pride are illuminated by comparing boasting to self-pity. Both are manifestations of pride. Boasting is the response of pride to success. Self-pity is the response of pride to suffering. Boasting says, "I deserve admiration because I have achieved so much." Self-pity says, "I deserve admiration because I have suffered so much." Boasting is the voice of pride in the heart of the strong. Self-pity is the voice of pride in the heart of the weak. Boasting sounds self-sufficient, Self-pity sounds self-sacrificing.

The reason self-pity does not look like pride is that it appears to be so needy. But the need arises from a wounded ego. It doesn’t come from a sense of unworthiness, but from a sense of unrecognized worthiness. It is the response of unapplauded pride.
John Piper, "The Dangerous Duty of Delight," p.34

John Piper, “The Dangerous Duty of Delight,” p.34 en Castellano, “El Peligroso Deber del Deleite.”
