Marching 7 times
Last night we studied Joshua 6. The Israelites had to walk around Jericho once a day for the first six days. The seventh day they had to march around the city 7 times, blow the trumpets and shout. God gave them the victory.
At first glance it sounds like such nice story until we remember that God had told his people to work six days and then rest on the seventh day. Here we see that, apparently God makes them do more on the seventh day than on the first 6 days combined. What’s going on here?
There are important lesson for us in this story. One thing that’s important to remember is that God’s desires that His people rest in Him. That doesn’t mean a lack of activity. It means placing our complete trust in Him regarding the process and the end of what He calls us to undertake. Sometimes trusting the Lord and resting in Him requires activity. Sometimes it requires a fight. Sometimes it means taking it easy. It depends on what the Holy Spirit is calling us to do at a given time. Entering into His rest means that we stop doing things in our own strength and according to the flesh. It definitely means forgetting our plans and submitting our lives to the plan that God has for us, doing things His way. For the people to enter into the rest that God had prepared for them they had to occupy the land. That meant getting rid of those that were inhabitants of the land at that time. In order for us to enter into the rest that God has for us we have to kick out the inhabitants that aren’t pleasing to the Lord. We have to take steps of faith. The whole process requires faith and action.
Hebrews 4:9-11
There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.
Marchando 7 veces.
Anoche estudiamos Josué 6. Los Israelitas tuvieron que marchar alrededor de la ciudad de Jericó 6 días, una vez al día. El séptimo día tuvieron que marchar alrededor de la ciudad 7 veces, tocar las trompetas y gritar. Dios les dio la victoria sobre sus enemigos.
A primera vista la historia parece bonita pero cuando comenzamos a estudiarla vemos que Dios ,en la ley, había mandado a su pueblo trabajar seis días y descansar el séptimo día. Aquí vemos que aparentemente les manda a hacer mas en el séptimo día que han hecho en los primeros seis días combinados. ¿Qué pasa aquí? Hay lecciones en esta historia que es muy importante.
Una de las lecciones es que Dios desea que Su pueblo descanse en él. Esto no significa dejar de hacer actividades. Depende de lo que el Espíritu de Dios nos manda en el momento. Entrar en el descanso del Señor significa poner toda nuestra confianza en él en cuanto al proceso y el final de lo que él nos llama hacer. A veces confiar en el Señor y descansar en él requiere actividad. A veces requiere meternos en una lucha. A veces significa tomar vacaciones. Definitivamente, entrar en el descanso del Señor significa dejar de hacer las cosas con nuestra propia fuerza y en la carne. Para que el pueble de Dios pudiera entrar en la tierra prometida tenía que ocuparla, y ocuparla significaba desocupar a los habitantes. Para que podamos también entrar en el descanso del Señor tendremos que expulsar a los habitantes que no son gratos para él. Tendremos que tomar pasos de fe. Todo el proceso requiere la fe y la acción.
Hebreos 4:9-11
Por consiguiente, queda todavía un reposo para el pueblo de Dios; porque el que entra en el reposo de Dios descansa también de sus obras, así como Dios descansó de las suyas. Esforcémonos, pues, por entrar en ese reposo, para que nadie caiga al seguir aquel ejemplo de desobediencia.

Sergio Moreno
El pastor de la Iglesia Calvary Chapel Las Crucetas, Sergio Moreno sufrió un derrame cerebral el domingo en la noche. Está en una clínica aquí en Lima todavía. El martes le operaron pero los médicos no han visto ningún mejoramiento. Es todo lo contrario, ahora están esperando hasta que su corazón termine de latir por completo para poder declararlo muerto y para que desenlacen las máquinas.
Sergio está dejando a su esposa y su hijo que tiene solo 5 añitos. Además su iglesia que es de casi todos adolescentes y jóvenes estará sin pastor. Estamos pidiendo oración por la familia y la iglesia.

Una bebé recién nacida A New Born
Después de orar por una amiga 6 años anoche fuimos a hablar con ella en su casa y entregó su vida a Cristo. Gracias Señor por contestar nuestras oraciones. Señor, queremos que tú nos usas para alcanzar a mas gente todavía con tu gran evangelio.

Ken Gire
The cross stands like a set of scales silhouetted against the Jerusalem sky. Its upraised stanchion balances a crossbeam where love and justice meet, where all humanity has been weighed-and found wanting.
There Jesus hung waiting with outstretched arms, aching for a prodigal world’s return.
“Remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
It is the last kind word said to Jesus before He died, spoken not be a religious leader, nor by the disciple whom he loved, nor even by his mother standing at his feet, but by a common thief.
And with the words, “Today you will be with me in paradise,” that thief is lifted off those weighted scales and into the waiting arms of the Savior.

Chocotejas
La Escuela de Discípulado está vendiendo chocotejas para levantar fondos porque queremos hacer un viaje misionero a Ayachucho. Son riquísimas y las hacen Marissa Córdova y Oninxha Guevarra en la iglesia. Queremos viajar para poner en la práctica lo que hemos aprendido en los últimos seis meses de clases. Queremos enseñar los shows de títeres, mimos, otras cosas de la escuela dominical y queremos enseñar la palabra de Dios. The Discipleship School is selling chocotejas (Peruvian chocolates) to raise funds. We want to do a missions trip to Ayacucho. The chocolates are delicious. They´re made by Marissa Córdova and Oninxha Guevarra. We want to travel so that we can put everything that we´ve learned in the last six months of classes into practice. We want to teach our puppet shows, mimes and other things about Sunday School to the churches there. We want to teach the word of God too.

Isaiah 56:7b, “for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
We know that we are supposed to pray. We say that we believe that God answers prayer. I don’t want to list the reasons why we as Christian’s don’t pray as we should. I just know that I want to see the people in our church praying more. We need more of God presence manifested in our midst. I for one am really longing for God’s Spirit to do more of a work in my own life and in our church. Let’s really focus in this week on praying for God’s Spirit to bring us into a new realization of His presence in our lives. Let’s pray that we would remember that our main goal isn’t to have an easy life, to have everything we want, or even to be able to minister in a more powerful and effective way. Let’s pray that we would please Him in everything we think, say, listen to and do. He deserves all of our love.

Sabemos que es un deber de los cristianos orar. Decimos que creemos que Dios contesta las oraciones. No quiero hacer una lista de todas las razones por lo cual nosotros como cristianos no oramos como debe ser. Solo sé que quisiera ver a la gente de nuestra iglesia orando más. Necesitamos más de la presencia de Dios manifestada en nuestras vidas. Yo quiero que el Espíritu de Dios haga más en mi vida y en la de nuestra iglesia. Enfoquémonos esta semana en esto… pidiendo que el Espíritu nos haga comprender en una manera nueva la presencia de Dios en nuestras vidas. El jueves y viernes son feriados. El jueves algunas personas de la iglesia van a reunirse a las 10 de la mañana para jugar fulbito. Vamos a orar juntos en la tarde. Dirty Hands, Dirty Heart Manos Sucias, Corazón Sucio
Psalm 24:3-4
Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?
Or who may stand in His holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.
What monarch would have servants with filthy hands to wait at his table? They who were ceremonially unclean could not enter into the Lord's house which was made with hands, much less shall the morally defiled be allowed to enjoy spiritual fellowship with a holy God. If our hands are now unclean, let us wash them in Jesu's precious blood, and so let us pray unto God, lifting up pure hands. But "clean hands" would not suffice, unless they were connected with a pure heart. True religion is heart work. We may wash the outside of the cup and the platter as long as we please; but if the inward parts be filthy, we are filthy altogether in the sight of God, for our hearts are more truly ourselves than our hands are. We may lose our hands and yet live, but we could not lose our heart and still live; the very life of our being lies in the inner nature, and hence the imperative need of purity within. There must be a work of grace in the core of the heart as well as in the palm of the hand, or our religion is a delusion. May God grant that our inward powers may be cleansed by the sanctifying Spirit, so that we may love holiness and abhor all sin. The pure in heart shall see God, all others are but blind bats; stone blindness in the eyes arises from stone in the heart. Dirt in the heart throws dust in the eyes.

La Muñeca de Priscilla Priscilla's Doll
Proverbios 17:6, “el orgullo de los hijos son sus padres.”
2 cosas me han pasado en las últimas semanas que tal vez solo los otros padres pueden entender.
Hace dos semanas más o menos estaba en el carro con mis hijos y estábamos hablando del hecho de que todos tenemos que morir. No podemos escaparnos de la muerte. Al toque Priscilla, mi hija que tiene 4 años me preguntó. “¿Jesús tendrá que morir otra vez papi?” Fue un buen momento para explicarle de nuevo que era lo que hizo Jesús por nosotros y por que lo hizo.
Hace unos cuantos días entré a la casa y vi la muñeca de Priscilla en el mueble. Priscilla estaba jugando en su cuarto mientras Anna (7 años) y Marco (9 años) estaban en la natación. No sé porque pero viendo la muñeca pensé. “Falta poco tiempo y no veré las muñecas de mi hija en el sofá. El tiempo pasa tan rápido y los hijos crecen y cambian cada minuto. Aproveché para pasar un tiempo lindo con ella hablando de su día, escuchando música y leyendo la Biblia.
Vemos vez tras vez en la Biblia que Dios manda a los padres de las familias hacer cosas para que sus hijos puedan preguntar acerca de Dios.
En Levítico Dios manda a su pueblo celebrar la pascua y la fiesta de las enramadas. Dios quiere que los padres de familia tengan la oportunidad de compartir la fe con sus hijos en una manera muy especial y demostrativa.
En Josué Dios manda a su pueblo sacar piedras del rió Jordán y dejarlos como un monumento. ¿El propósito? Para que los hijos preguntaran lo que significaba y para que los padres respondieran.
Como Padres, tenemos una responsabilidad y una oportunidad muy grande. Podemos enseñar la palabra de Dios y principios bíblicos a nuestros hijos en una manera que las madres no pueden.
Es lindo hacer algo especial con nuestros hijos. Es bueno llevarles a la escuela dominical pero lo más importante es estar atentos cuando nos preguntan cosas de la vida. Es tan importante escuchar y responder a sus preguntas acerca de la Biblia. Nos escuchan y nos observan. Muy pronto no tendremos la misma influencia.
Deuteronomio 6:6,7“Grábate en el corazón estas palabras que hoy te mando. Incúlcaselas continuamente a tus hijos. Háblales de ellas cuando estés en tu casa y cuando vayas por el camino, cuando te acuestes y cuando te levantes.”

Two things have happened to me in the last two weeks that only other fathers can understand.
Two weeks ago I was in the car with my children and we were talking about the fact that everyone has to die. We can’t escape it. My 4 year old daughter Priscilla asked me a question right away. Will Jesus have to die again? She asked. It was a great opportunity to explain what Jesus did for us and why He did it to her again.
A few days ago I entered the house and saw one of Priscilla’s dolls on the couch. She was playing in her room while Anna (7 years old) and Marco (9 years old) were at their swimming class. I don’t know why exactly but when I saw the doll there I though to myself, “It won’t be long and I won’t be seeing her dolls on the couch anymore.” Time goes by so fast and our children grow and change every minute. I took advantage of the opportunity that day to spend some nice time with Priscilla. We listened to music, talked about her day and read the Bible.
Time after time God tells us in His word that we, as fathers are to do things so that our children will ask us about God.
In Leviticus God commands His people to celebrate the Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles. God wants the fathers to have the opportunity to share their faith with their children in a very special and demonstrative way.
In Joshua God commands the people to take rocks out of the Jordan river and build a memorial. The reason is so that the children will ask their fathers about what happened and so that the fathers will be able to answer.
As fathers we have a responsibility and a great opportunity. We can teach the word of God and biblical principles to our children in a way that their mothers can’t. It’s really cool to be able to share something special with our children. It’s good to take them to Sunday School but the most important thing is to pay attention to them when they ask us questions about life. Listening and answering questions that our children ask about the Bible is essential. They’re listening to us and they’re observing what we do and how we are. It won’t be long and we won’t have the same influence on them.

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7“You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.”[2]

2 Espías, Una Prostituta 2 Spies 1 Prostitute
Jeremías 29:11a
Porque yo sé muy bien los planes que tengo para ustedes afirma el Señor,
Las últimas semanas hemos hablado de Josué capítulo 2 en la iglesia. Habla de los 2 espías enviados por Josué. Estos dos pensaban que tenían que conocer las debilidades del enemigo, sus fortalezas y el terreno en general. No sabían que Dios tenía otro propósito. Realmente fueron enviados porque Dios quería salvar a una prostituta. El plan de Dios fue maravilloso porque los dos espías fueron usados por Dios pero la prostituta les animó en cuanto a Dios y la victoria que les esperaba. La prostituta Rajab llegó a ser parte del pueblo de Dios y antepasado del rey David y Jesucristo. El Nuevo Testamento habla de los 2 espías pero no los llama espías sino mensajeros. Habla de Rajab la prostituta como una heroína de la fe.
Tal vez hoy día te encuentras en la chamba, en la clase, o irás al mercado. Tu tal vez piensas que estas allí por motivos de trabajo, estudios o compras. ¿Es posible que Dios te esta mandando como mensajero? Queremos estar atentos a lo que Dios tiene planeado para nosotros. ¿Quién sabe lo que Dios querrá hacer contigo hoy? Deja a Dios usarte. ¡No hay nada mejor en el mundo!

These last few weeks we’ve been talking about Joshua chapter 2 in the church. It’s about the two spies that were sent by Joshua. These two men thought that they were going to find out about the weaknesses of the enemy, his strengths and to study the terrain in general. They didn’t know that God had a different plan. They were really sent because God wanted to save a prostitute. God’s plan was great because the two spies were used by God but the prostitute encouraged them regarding their God and the victory that awaited them. Rahab, the prostitute became a part of God’s people and an ancestor of King David and Jesus Christ. When the New Testament mentions the two spies it speaks of them as messengers. It speaks of Rahab as a hero of the faith.
Maybe you’re at work today or maybe you’ll be in a class or at the market. Maybe you think that God is sending you because you have to work, study, shop, etc. Is it possible that God is sending you as a messenger? We want to pay attention to what God has planned for us today. Let God use you. There’s nothing better in the world!

Porque yo sé muy bien los planes que tengo para ustedes afirma el Señor,
Las últimas semanas hemos hablado de Josué capítulo 2 en la iglesia. Habla de los 2 espías enviados por Josué. Estos dos pensaban que tenían que conocer las debilidades del enemigo, sus fortalezas y el terreno en general. No sabían que Dios tenía otro propósito. Realmente fueron enviados porque Dios quería salvar a una prostituta. El plan de Dios fue maravilloso porque los dos espías fueron usados por Dios pero la prostituta les animó en cuanto a Dios y la victoria que les esperaba. La prostituta Rajab llegó a ser parte del pueblo de Dios y antepasado del rey David y Jesucristo. El Nuevo Testamento habla de los 2 espías pero no los llama espías sino mensajeros. Habla de Rajab la prostituta como una heroína de la fe.
Tal vez hoy día te encuentras en la chamba, en la clase, o irás al mercado. Tu tal vez piensas que estas allí por motivos de trabajo, estudios o compras. ¿Es posible que Dios te esta mandando como mensajero? Queremos estar atentos a lo que Dios tiene planeado para nosotros. ¿Quién sabe lo que Dios querrá hacer contigo hoy? Deja a Dios usarte. ¡No hay nada mejor en el mundo!

These last few weeks we’ve been talking about Joshua chapter 2 in the church. It’s about the two spies that were sent by Joshua. These two men thought that they were going to find out about the weaknesses of the enemy, his strengths and to study the terrain in general. They didn’t know that God had a different plan. They were really sent because God wanted to save a prostitute. God’s plan was great because the two spies were used by God but the prostitute encouraged them regarding their God and the victory that awaited them. Rahab, the prostitute became a part of God’s people and an ancestor of King David and Jesus Christ. When the New Testament mentions the two spies it speaks of them as messengers. It speaks of Rahab as a hero of the faith.
Maybe you’re at work today or maybe you’ll be in a class or at the market. Gracias Thanks
Gracias a los que oraron por el alcance en Puente Piedra el viernes. Fuimos al barrio de San José con un grupo de 23 personas más o menos. El Señor realmente se manifestó. En mi caso, fui bendecido cuando pudimos ministrar a una mujer que se llama Lily. Es una madre con 3 hijos. El último tiene solo 5 meses. Cuando nació su bebe, el esposo la dejó. Ha ido a una iglesia cristiana una vez pero no pudo regresar porque queda muy lejos. No sabia que teníamos una iglesia solo unas cuadras mas allá de su casa. Cuando le pregunté si había entregado su vida a Cristo me dijo, “No, pero quisiera.” Nos quedamos ministrando a ella por un tiempo explicando el plan de la salvación. Luego invitó a una amiga acompañarla a la reunión que hicimos en el parque. Después de ir a la reunión en el parque fuimos a orar por un hombre que se llama Edgar. Tiene 30 anos y está muy mal con cáncer en la espalda. Orando por el, me sentí tan triste y tan agradecido a la vez, triste por su sufrimiento y agradecido por la salud que Dios me ha dado. Señor, gracias por hacerme ver lo precioso y a la vez cuán frágil es nuestra vida.
El sábado pasamos un tiempo bonito en Villa Maria aunque hacia mucho frío. Tuve una conversación muy bonita con tres niños. Cada uno tiene 9 anos. Uno nunca había ido a la reunión para los niños. Era bien bonito escuchar a los otros dos explicándole que hacemos los sábados en el parque. Dijeron que les encantan los títeres. Mientras que hablaban llegó la hermana de uno y le dijo que tenía que ir a casa con ella. El dijo que quería quedarse porque no quería perder todo. Se quedó y disfrutó de todo. El domingo nos visitaron en la iglesia de Surco.
Thanks to those of you that prayed for our outreach in Puente Piedra on Friday. We went to a neighborhood called San Jose with a group of about 23 people. The Lord really manifested himself. In my case, I was blessed when we were able to minister to a woman named Lily. She is a mother of three. Her youngest is only 5 months old. When her youngest was born her husband left her. She has been to a Christian church once but hasn’t been able to attend there because it’s too far. She didn’t know that we had a church only a few blocks from her home. When I asked her if she had given her life to the Lord she told me, “No, but I would like to.” We stayed there ministering to her for some time and explained God’s plan of salvation. Afterward, she invited a friend to accompany her to the meeting that we had in the park. After the meeting in the park we went to pray for a man named Edgar. He’s 30 years old and is suffering terribly from cancer of the spine. When I was praying for him I felt so sad and so thankful at the same time. I was sad seeing his suffering and thankful for the good health the Lord has given me. Lord, thanks for letting me see how precious and fragile our life really is.
We had a great time on Saturday in Villa Maria even though it was really cold. I had a conversation with three boys. There are all 9 years old. One of them had never been to one of our children’s meetings in the park before. The other two were explaining what we do to him. While they were talking one of the boy’s older sisters came to tell him to go home. He told her that he didn’t want to leave because he didn’t want to miss anything. He stayed and enjoyed every minute of the program. On Sunday they visited us at the church here in Surco.

La Lluvia Tardía The Latter Rain

Hemos visto las lluvias tempranas. La semilla ha brotado en nuestro corazón y en la iglesia. Sabemos que Jesús ha resucitado de entre los muertos y ha ascendido al cielo. En Pentecostés las lluvias tempranas produjeron un crecimiento enorme. En nuestras vidas hemos visto el Señor comenzar una obra en nuestros corazones y ministerios. La iglesia sigue creciendo pero tenemos que pasar largos días bajo el calor del sol. ¡Como anhelamos la lluvia tardía! Anhelamos el fruto precioso producido en nosotros y en Su iglesia Hasta aquel día mantenemos la paciencia y la esperanza producida por la fe en nuestro amado Señor

Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.[1]
We’ve seen the early rains. The seed has sprouted in our hearts and in the church. We know that Jesus has risen from the dead and has ascended to heaven. In Pentecost the early rains produced an enormous growth. We’ve seen the Lord begin a work in our hearts and ministries as well. The church continues to grow but we have to go through long days below the heat of the sun. How we desire the latter rains! We long for the precious fruit to be produced in us and in the church. Until that day we stay patient we have the hope produced by faith in our loved Lord.

Vamos a ministrar en Puente Piedra esta tarde con los de Surco, Miami Beach y Brasil. Dios mediante estaremos ministrando en un barrio diferente porque queremos alcanzar a más gente con el evangelio de Cristo. Oren por nosotros. Vamos a salir a las 2 de la tarde más o menos.

Cuando escuchan la sentencia de muerte, recíbanlo como la invitación del Rey de la Gloria, quien les ha invitado a la fiesta de boda.
Las instrucciones eran difíciles pero claras. Los autores franceses Franz Ravennas y Martín Guillabert escribieron un manual para los cristianos enfrentando la amenaza de la muerte. Su “oficina editorial” fue la celda de la cárcel durante la revolución francesa. Opinaban que su celda era la cámara ante- paraíso.
“Cuando han terminado de leer la sentencia,” continua el manual, “Digan Uds., con los muchos mártires quienes han ido adelante, “Gracias Dios.” Canten canciones gozosas. Cuando les aten las manos, repitan las palabras de San Pablo: “Por el nombre del Señor Jesús estoy dispuesto no sólo a ser atado sino también a morir”.
En camino a ser disparados, hablen con los guardias de las escrituras acerca de la delicia que es el sufrimiento y la muerte por Cristo. ¿Quién nos apartará del amor de Cristo? (Romanos 8:35)

Todos los días debemos vivir con un aviso: ¡Tengamos cuidado! En cualquier momento tragedia es una posibilidad. Si estamos en un vehículo, cruzando la calle o simplemente cumpliendo con nuestros deberes cotidianos, no tenemos la certeza que no pasará un accidente, una enfermedad o un acto de violencia al propósito. Aunque no podemos vivir protegidos de este mundo malo, podemos vivir con la promesa que Dios nos da. Nada, absolutamente nada puede separarnos del amor que tenemos en Jesús. “When they have finished reading your sentence,” the manual continues, “you will say with many martyrs who have gone before you, ‘Thank God.’ Sing joyful songs. When they bind your hands, say the words of St. Paul: ‘I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die for the name of Jesus Christ.’
“On the way to being shot, speak to the guards from Scripture about the delight of suffering and dying for Christ. ‘Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?’ (Romans 8:35)
“When you encounter the executioner, remember the words of the great martyr Ignatius: ‘When will the happy moment come when I will be slaughtered for my Savior? How long must I wait?’ Remember to also say a prayer for the persecutors.”

Their words are too much to imagine for most Christians in free nations, but they are followed, even today, in restricted nations.Every day we live should come with a warning: Watch out! At any given moment, tragedy is a distinct possibility. Whether we are riding in a vehicle, crossing a street, or just going about our daily work, we are not safe from an accident, a disease, or a purposeful act of violence. While we can’t live protected from the evils of this world, we can live with the promise that God gives us: Nothing, absolutely nothing, can cut us off from the love we have in Jesus. Although you may never die for your faith, you may face rejection and other painful persecutions. God’s love will instruct you and help you face all that comes your way today.

Envying and strife are opposed to the meekness of wisdom. The heart is the seat of both; but envy and wisdom cannot dwell together in the same heart. Holy zeal and bitter envying are as different as the flames of seraphim and the fire of hell. 2. The order of things here laid down. Envying is first and excites strife; strife endeavors to excuse itself by vain-glorying and lying; and then (v. 16) hereupon ensue confusion and every evil work. Those who live in malice, envy, and contention, live in confusion, and are liable to be provoked and hurried to any evil work. Such disorders raise many temptations, strengthen temptations, and involve men in a great deal of guilt. One sin begets another, and it cannot be imagined how much mischief is produced: there is every evil work.[2]

El Fin de Semana The Weekend
Pasamos un fin de semana muy bonito. El sábado fuimos a Villa Maria como siempre. Esta vez fuimos un poco más temprano para invitar a la gente al parque. El grupo de Miami Beach hizo el programa para los niños. Hicieron un show de títeres muy bonito, enseñaron la Biblia y canciones para los niños y compartieron unos testimonios. El grupo de Jucum de Brasil hizo mas o menos ocho mimos, tocaron música y compartieron testimonios y la palabra de Dios. Un grupo de jóvenes de Gracia Calvary Chapel aquí en Lima hicieron un mimo también. Los de Koinonia Surco tocaron música, tradujeron y predicaron la palabra.
El día domingo hicimos una reunión especial en Surco para dedicar el edificio al Señor. Los títeres fueron muy graciosos y edificantes a la vez. Vinieron personas que no hemos visto hace tiempo y fue bonito también. Un grupo de peruanos de estadounidenses fue a ministrar en Puente Piedra en la tarde. Gracias Señor por tantas bendiciones en unos cuantos días no más. Tú eres tan bueno.
We had a nice weekend. On Saturday we went to Villa Maria as always. We went a little earlier than normal so that we could invite people to the park. The group from Miami Beach did the children’s program. They did a puppet show that was really nice, they taught the Bible, they sang some songs with the children and shared some testimonies too. The YWAM group from Brazil did seven or eight mimes, played music and shared testimonies and the word of God too. A group of young people from Gracia Calvary Chapel here in Lima did a mime too. The people from Surco played music, translated and preached the word.
On Sunday we had a special meeting to dedicate the building to the Lord. The puppet show was so funny and edifying at the same time. A number of people came that we hadn’t seen for a long time and so it was good to see them. A group of Peruvians and North Americans went to Puente Piedra in the afternoon and had a good time ministering there. Thanks Lord for so many blessings in only a few days. You’re so good.

Good Intentions Buenas Intenciones
Zeb Mengistu was talking about the time that Davids’ father sent him to his brothers while they were confronting the phillistines. David was delivering provisions when he heard the voice of Goliath mocking God and His people. He wanted to take a step of faith and defeat Goliath in the name of the Lord. Davids’ brothers weren’t impressed with their little brother. They mocked and insulted him. They accused him of wrong intentions. You can read more about it in 1 Samuel 17.Zeb Mengistu was talking about this passage. He said, “David had good intentions, but they were misinterpreted. People will not celebrate or accept your intentions. You will waste your time fighting to prove your intentions. But where intentions are not celebrated, fruit is. The very ones who reject your intentions will rejoice over your fruit. In fact, by fighting to justify your intentions you compromise your fruit. We must learn to let our fruit fight for us. Scripture says that wisdom is proved right by her children. Wisdom does not fight for herself, her children do. Instead of fighting for man's approval, we must fight for God's approval because, "if God is for us, who can be against us?"

Dedicando el Edificio Dedicating the Building
El domingo será un día especial porque estaremos dedicando el edificio en Surco al Señor. Dios ha sido tan bueno y queremos agradecerle por la bendición que tenemos en el edificio y mas que todo en los ministerios que se realizarán en él. La reunión comenzará a las 10 en punto. Después vamos a comer sanguchitos y tomar un refresco juntos.
Por se acaso, no hay escuela de discipulado mañana porque Pastor Robert no ha podido venir de Miami.
Sunday will be a special day because we will be dedicating the new building in Surco to the Lord. God has been so good and we want to thank Him for the blessing that we have in the building and above all for the ministerios that will take place here. The meeting will start at 10:00a.m. sharp. Afterward we will have some sandwiches and something to drink for everyone.
By the way, there will be no discipleship school class tomorrow because Pastor Robert couldn´t come from Miami.

Estamos con ganas de ministrar a la gente en Villa Maria mañana junto con los tres grupos. Los de Miami Beach, los de Surco y los de Jucum Brazil. ¡Va a ser espectacular!

Esta noche vamos a continuar nuestro estudio bíblico en el libro de Josué. Estamos en capítulo 1. Una cosa interesante acerca del libro es que Josué es el primer libro de la Bíblia que lleva el nombre de un hombre. El nombre es Josué (Jesús). Moises escribió la ley y llevó el pueblo hasta la tierra prometida pero solo Josué pudo llevar al pueblo dentro. Josué es una figura de Jesús y solo Jesús puede llevarnos a la plenitud del Espíritu Santo.

Estamos muy contentos porque mañana llega un grupo de Calvary Chapel Miami Beach. Vamos a ministrar con ellos en el parque de Villa Maria el sábado en la tarde y noche. También van a participar algunos de jucum de Brazil. Será bonito.
We´re continuing our Bible Study tonight and we´re in the book of Joshua. We´re in chapter one. One interesting fact about the book is that it´s the first book in the Bible that´s named after a man. Joshua (Jesus) is the name. Moses wrote the law and took the people to the promised land but couldn´t bring the people inside. Only Joshua could do it. In the same way, Joshua is a figure of Jesus and only Jesus can take us into the abundant life of the Holy Spirit.

Ships Barcos
James 3:4
Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.[1]
So many times are lives are being driven by circumstances that we seem unable to control. The fierce winds rise and we seem small and without hope. In times like these when the storm is raging around us it’s important to remember that our words can often turn the situation around. The very winds that seemed to drive us out of control can be used to help us get to our destination. Harsh circumstances in life are great blessings for those that learn to put into practice what the Lord calls us to do. In chapter one James mentions that we should count it all joy when going through trials. That’s a good place to start. Instead of complaining we should give thanks to the Lord. Give thanks to God for who He is and for that fact that He is still in control. Give thanks for the fact that God is able to use everything for the good of those who love Him. You can think of a few other reasons to give thanks as well.
I just want to share one more word of advice from the word of God regarding the tongue…
Proverbs 15:1, “A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Fíjense también en los barcos. A pesar de ser tan grandes y de ser impulsados por fuertes vientos, se gobiernan por un pequeño timón a voluntad del piloto.
Muchas veces nuestras vidas parecen ser propulsadas por circunstancias fuera de nuestro control. Los vientos violentos se levantan y nos parecemos muy pequeños y sin esperanza. En tiempos así, cuando la tempestad se levanta alrededor nuestro es importante recordar que nuestras palabras pueden cambiar la situación. Los mismos vientos que parecen empujarnos lejos de nuestro destino y fuera de control pueden ser usados para ayudarnos llegar a él. Las circunstancias duras pueden llegar a ser bendiciones para nuestras vidas si aprendemos a poner en la práctica lo que el Señor nos llama hacer. En capítulo 1 Santiago dice que debemos tener por sumo gozo cuando nos encontramos en diversas pruebas. Es un buen comienzo. En vez de quejarnos debemos dar gracias a Dios. Dad gracias a Dios por quien es. Dad gracias a Dios por el hecho de que todavía él tiene el control. Dad gracias a Dios porque él es capaz y todas las cosas les ayudan a bien, esto es, a los que conforme a su propósito son llamados. Puedes pensar en más razones para dar gracias también.
Una cosa más en cuanto a lo que la palabra de Dios dice acerca de la lengua…
Proverbios 15:1 dice, “La respuesta amable calma el enojo, pero la agresiva echa leña al fuego.”

In spite of the painful reflections and memories, I have no time for bitterness. My life is filled with too much happiness, too many loving, caring people to allow myself to be devoured by the cancer of hate. I rejoice. I sing. I laugh. Zarandeado Como a Trigo. Sifted as Wheat
Lucas 22:31, “Dijo también el Señor: Simón, Simón, he aquí Satanás os ha pedido para zarandearos como a trigo;”
La vida en Cristo es muchas cosas. Es gozo, es aventura y es un nuevo comienzo. Es también una batalla. A veces sentimos la batalla más que otras veces. El hecho de que no sentimos la batalla no significa que no pasa nada. Pedro estaba tan lleno de auto suficiencia cuando declaró que nunca negaría a Jesús y Jesús respondió diciéndole que Satanás quería zarandearlo como a trigo. En otras palabras Satanás quería destruir su fe y su vida. Quería aplastar o machacarlo. Pedro ni siquiera sabía lo que estaba pasando en ese momento. Después de negar a Jesús estoy seguro que Pedro fue tentado a sentir la condenación pero Pedro tenía algo grande a su favor. Jesús había orado por él. Jesús le aseguró a Pedro de antemano que lo iba a hacer. Nuestro Señor le enseñó muchas cosas. Muy pronto Pedro estará viviendo el libro de Hechos. Estará enseñando y predicando, sanando y ministrando pero no ha llegado aquel tiempo todavía. Pedro tuvo que pasar por un tiempo difícil primero. Si, hasta tuvo que pasar por algo que parecía un fracaso muy grande. Jesús oró por la fe de Pedro para que no fallara. No falló.
En mi caso, he sentido que la batalla se está calentando a mí alrededor recientemente. He sentido que Satanás estaría muy contento si podría destruir todo lo que el Señor quiere hacer. A veces el Señor quiere enseñarnos lecciones inestimables. A veces pasamos por pruebas. Podríamos perder muchas cosas en la vida y sobrevivir pero una cosa que no queremos perder jamás es la fe en nuestro Dios. Gloria a Dios que Jesús no solo ha orado por Pedro sino también ha orado por ti y aún está orando por ti. Está orando por mí también.
Romanos 8:34 dice, “¿Quién es el que condenará? Cristo es el que murió; más aun, el que también resucitó, el que además está a la diestra de Dios, el que también intercede por nosotros.”
Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.[1]
The Christian life is many things. It is a joy, it’s an adventure, and it’s a new beginning. It’s also a battle. Sometimes we sense the battle more than at other times. The fact that we don’t sense it at times doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening. Peter was so self confident when he declared that he would never deny the Lord and Jesus responded by telling him that Satan had wanted to sift him like wheat. In other words he really wanted to destroy his faith and even his life. He wanted to crush him. Peter wasn’t even aware of it at the time. After Peter’s denials of the Lord I’m sure there was the temptation to feel condemned but Peter had one great thing going for him. Jesus had prayed for him. Jesus assured Peter beforehand. Peter would need to remember Jesus assurance. Jesus had spent so much time with Peter. Our Lord had taught him many things. Soon Peter would be living the book of Acts. He would be teaching and preaching, healing and ministering but that time hadn’t arrived yet. Peter had to go through a hard time, a time of testing first. Yes, even a time of what would appear to be failure. Jesus prayed that Peter’s faith wouldn’t fail. It didn’t.
As for me, I’ve really sensed the battle heating up around me lately. I’ve sensed that Satan would just love to destroy everything that the Lord wants to do. At times the Lord wants to teach us invaluable lessons. At times we go through tests. We could lose a lot of things in this life and still survive, but the one thing we don’t ever want to lose is our faith. Praise the Lord Jesus that Jesus didn’t just pray for Peter. He’s prayed for and is praying for you. He’s praying for me too.
Romans 8:34 says, “Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.”[2]

La vida en Cristo es muchas cosas. Es gozo, es aventura y es un nuevo comienzo. Es también una batalla. A veces sentimos la batalla más que otras veces. El hecho de que no sentimos la batalla no significa que no pasa nada. Pedro estaba tan lleno de auto suficiencia cuando declaró que nunca negaría a Jesús y Jesús respondió diciéndole que Satanás quería zarandearlo como a trigo. En otras palabras Satanás quería destruir su fe y su vida. Quería aplastar o machacarlo. Pedro ni siquiera sabía lo que estaba pasando en ese momento. Después de negar a Jesús estoy seguro que Pedro fue tentado a sentir la condenación pero Pedro tenía algo grande a su favor. Jesús había orado por él. Jesús le aseguró a Pedro de antemano que lo iba a hacer. Nuestro Señor le enseñó muchas cosas. Muy pronto Pedro estará viviendo el libro de Hechos. Estará enseñando y predicando, sanando y ministrando pero no ha llegado aquel tiempo todavía. Pedro tuvo que pasar por un tiempo difícil primero. Si, hasta tuvo que pasar por algo que parecía un fracaso muy grande. Jesús oró por la fe de Pedro para que no fallara. No falló.
En mi caso, he sentido que la batalla se está calentando a mí alrededor recientemente. He sentido que Satanás estaría muy contento si podría destruir todo lo que el Señor quiere hacer. A veces el Señor quiere enseñarnos lecciones inestimables. A veces pasamos por pruebas. Podríamos perder muchas cosas en la vida y sobrevivir pero una cosa que no queremos perder jamás es la fe en nuestro Dios. Gloria a Dios que Jesús no solo ha orado por Pedro sino también ha orado por ti y aún está orando por ti. Está orando por mí también.
Romanos 8:34 dice, “¿Quién es el que condenará? Cristo es el que murió; más aun, el que también resucitó, el que además está a la diestra de Dios, el que también intercede por nosotros.”
Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.[1]
The Christian life is many things. It is a joy, it’s an adventure, and it’s a new beginning. It’s also a battle. Sometimes we sense the battle more than at other times. The fact that we don’t sense it at times doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening. Peter was so self confident when he declared that he would never deny the Lord and Jesus responded by telling him that Satan had wanted to sift him like wheat. In other words he really wanted to destroy his faith and even his life. He wanted to crush him. Peter wasn’t even aware of it at the time. After Peter’s denials of the Lord I’m sure there was the temptation to feel condemned but Peter had one great thing going for him. Jesus had prayed for him. Jesus assured Peter beforehand. Peter would need to remember Jesus assurance. Jesus had spent so much time with Peter. Our Lord had taught him many things. Soon Peter would be living the book of Acts. He would be teaching and preaching, healing and ministering but that time hadn’t arrived yet. Peter had to go through a hard time, a time of testing first. Yes, even a time of what would appear to be failure. Jesus prayed that Peter’s faith wouldn’t fail. It didn’t.
As for me, I’ve really sensed the battle heating up around me lately. I’ve sensed that Satan would just love to destroy everything that the Lord wants to do. At times the Lord wants to teach us invaluable lessons. At times we go through tests. We could lose a lot of things in this life and still survive, but the one thing we don’t ever want to lose is our faith. Praise the Lord Jesus that Jesus didn’t just pray for Peter. He’s prayed for and is praying for you. He’s praying for me too.
Romans 8:34 says, “Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.”[2]

Pancakes Pan Queques
Ephesians 1:15, 16Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:[1]
Due to the elections here in Peru we’re having church at 5:00 this afternoon instead of our usual 10:00a.m. service. That gave our family a little extra time in the morning. My son Marco took advantage of the situation and made pancakes for breakfast. Every time we eat pancakes I think of my friend Pastor J.P. We’ve spent some great times together. We’ve prayed, talked, laughed and struggled. I really thank God for a number of godly men that I’ve had the pleasure of spending time with. I guess you’re wondering what pancakes have to do with J.P. When J.P. was a boy his family used to go camping in the Pacific Northwest. Their typical breakfast was pancakes and he told me that their dog just loved pancakes. It’s great to see how a simple thing like pancakes can make you rejoice in the Lord and remember great and edifying times that you’ve spent with brothers in the Lord. There’s nothing quite like the body of Christ.

A causa de las elecciones aquí en El Perú vamos a reunirnos como iglesia a las 5 de la tarde hoy en ves de hacer nuestra reunión normal a las 10:00a.m. Así que nuestra familia tuvo un poco mas de tiempo esta mañana y Marco aprovechó para preparar pan queques. Cada vez que comemos pan queques pienso en mi amigo Pastor J.P. Hemos pasado tiempos muy buenos juntos. Hemos orado, conversado, nos hemos reído, y hemos luchado juntos. Le doy muchas gracias a Dios por el número de hombres que temen a Dios con quienes he podido pasar tiempo. Me imagino que estarás pensando, ¿Qué tienen que ver pan queques con J.P.? Cuando J.P. fue niño su familia acampaba en el noroeste pacifico de los Estados Unidos. Su desayuno típico era un plato de pan queques. Me cuenta que a su perro siempre le gustaban mucho los pan queques. Es lindo ver como algo simple como un plato de pan queques nos hace regocijar en el Señor y recordar los tiempos agradables y edificantes que hemos pasado con hermanos en la fe. No hay nada como el cuerpo de Cristo.

Two Cultures/Two Worlds Dos Culturas Dos Mundos
John 14:1-3
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.[1]
1 Peter 2:11
11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,[2]
I mentioned the other day that we’ve been here in Peru for 8 years now. I speak Spanish enough to teach and preach, I even forget words in English sometimes. They seem to come out more easily in Spanish. I go through some culture shock when I’m in the States. Most of the time I think I’m pretty use to life here then to my surprise something happens or somebody does something unexpected. It just completely freaks me out. I just can’t believe it. Then I find out that it’s just normal to my Peruvian friends. I guess you could say I live between two worlds culturally and emotionally. I love the Peruvians and I love the people in the States. I miss my family and friends in the States a lot sometimes. When I’m in the States I long for Peru. I miss watching American football and I miss going to my favorite Peruvian restaurants in Miami, (see what I mean?). When I’m in Peru I think about the States a lot. Peru is home for me but it’s not really. South Florida is home for me but not really. It’s because whether I’m in Peru, South Florida or the lower Ubangee I’m not home.
The apostle Peter refers to us as sojourners and pilgrims. Jesus said that He’s preparing a place for us. I know that it’s gonna be great. I guess it’s not bad to feel confused and not at home in some sense in this world. I know that I’ll feel completely at home when I get there. Until then I have the option to chose the attitude that Paul had when he said, “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content” [3]

Mencioné hace unos días que hemos cumplido 8 años en El Perú. Hablo el castellano suficiente para poder predicar y enseñar la Biblia y a veces no recuerdo las palabras ingles. Parece que sale el castellano con más facilidad. Sufro del shock cultural cuando estoy en los Estados Unidos. La mayor parte del tiempo pienso que estoy acostumbrado a la vida aquí y de repente algo sorprendente pasa o alguien hace algo que no puede creer. Me saca del cuadro por completo. Luego me entero por mis amigos peruanos que lo que he visto o lo que la persona ha hecho no es considerado una locura. Es normal. Se puede decir que yo vivo entre dos mundos culturalmente y emocionalmente hablando. Los quiero mucho a los peruanos y a los estadounidenses también. Extraño a mi familia y a mis amigos en Norteamérica. Cuando estoy en los Estados anhelo El Perú. Me gustaría ver un partido de fútbol americano de ves en cuando y me gustaría ir a mis restaurantes peruanos favoritos en Miami también. (¿ya entiendes lo que quiero decir?) Cuando estoy en El Perú pienso en los Estados Unidos mucho. El Perú ya es mi lugar pero no tanto. El sur de la Florida es mi lugar pero no tanto. Es porque no importa si estoy en El Perú, el sur de la Florida o la parte baja del Ubangee, no estoy en casa.
El Apóstol Pedro habla de nosotros como extranjeros y peregrinos. Jesús dijo que él está preparando un lugar para nosotros. Se que va a ser mostro. Supongo que no es malo sentirse un poco confundido a veces el no sentirnos en casa en este mundo. Sé que voy a sentirme en casa cuando llegue allí. Hasta entonces me quede la opción que eligió Pablo cuando dijo, “pues he aprendido a contentarme, cualquiera que sea mi situación.”

El Ministerio de La Noche
Si Dios te ha seleccionado como un objeto especial de Su gracia debes esperar que él te honre con disciplinas mucho mas estrictas y con sufrimiento mayor que los que tiene, menos favor están llamados a sufrir.
Ya voy a anticipar la objeción de la persona que diría, “Dios no tiene personas especiales entre Sus hijos.” Las sagradas escrituras y la historia cristiana concuerdan a mostrar que si, tiene. Una estrella se distingue de la otra en la gloria entre los santos en la tierra tal como entre los del cielo. Sin duda las diferencias existen. Si son por el decreto de Dios o por su conocimiento de antemano según el grado de la receptividad que El encontrará entre sus hijos no estoy preparado a proclamar con certeza aunque tiendo al último punto de vista.
Si Dios comienza a hacerte un cristiano no usual no es probable que El sea tan gentil contigo como lo pintan los maestros populares. El escultor no usa las herramientas de manicura para reducir el mármol crudo y sin forma a una cosa de belleza. La sierra, el martillo y el cincel son herramientas crudas pero sin ellas la piedra áspera quedaría sin forma y sin belleza para siempre.
Para hacer su obra de gracia suprema en ti El, quitará de tu corazón todo lo que amas más. Todo en lo que confías se tendrá que ir. Montones de ceniza quedarán donde tus tesoros mas preciosos estaban antes.
Eso no es para enseñar el poder santificador de la pobreza. Si ser pobre haría a los hombres santos cada pobre sentado en la banca fuera santo pero Dios sabe el secreto de extraer cosas de nuestros corazones que todavía siguen siendo importantes para nosotros. Lo que El hace es impedir que disfrutemos de ellas. Nos permite tenerlas todavía pero nos hace psicológicamente incapaces de dejar a nuestro corazón correr con ellas. Entonces llegan a ser útiles sin ser dañinas.
Dios logrará todo eso al costo de los placeres comunes que hasta aquel momento nos mantenían y nos daban una vida con garra. Ahora bajo el cuidado del Espíritu Santo tu vida llega a ser seca y sin sabor y en cierta forma una carga para ti. En este estado existirás solo por un deseo ciego de vivir. No encontrarás la dulzura interna que disfrutabas antes. La sonrisa de Dios estará retraída o escondida de tus ojos. Entonces aprenderás lo que es la fe y la lección será dura pero será el único camino abierto para ti. Aprenderás que la fe verdadera se encuentra en la voluntad y el gozo indescriptible de que habla el apóstol no es la fe sino el fruto que llega a la madurez muy lentamente. Aprenderás que los gozos espirituales del presente vienen y se van sin alterar tu estado espiritual y sin afectar tu posición espiritual como hijo verdadero del Padre Celestial. Aprenderás también y probablemente será sorprendente para ti, que es posible vivir con la conciencia limpia delante de los hombres y Dios sin experimentar la paz y el gozo de que hablabas como un cristiano inmaduro. El tiempo que te quedarás en la noche del alma así dependerá de varios factores algunos de los cuales podrás identificar mas tarde. Otros quedarán con Dios completamente escondidos de ti. Las palabras, “Tuyo es el día, tuya también es la noche” serán interpretadas para ti por el mejor de los maestros, el Espíritu Santo. Conocerás por experiencia propia la bendición que es el ministerio de la noche.
La capacidad del hombre de vivir sin gozo tiene un límite. Hasta Cristo solo pudo aguantar la cruz por el gozo puesto delante de él. El fiero más fuerte fractura si es bajo la tensión demasiado tiempo. Dios sabe exactamente cuanta presión cada uno de nosotros podemos aguantar. El sabe por cuanto tiempo podemos aguantar la noche y entonces nos da alivio. Primero nos da vislumbres de la estrella de la mañana y luego nos da la luz mas completa que viene en la mañana.
Poco a poco descubrirás el amor de Dios en medio de tu sufrimiento. Tu corazón comienza a aprobar todo el asunto. Aprenderás solito lo que todas las escuelas en el mundo no te podrían enseñar-la acción sanadora de la fe sin mantener el placer. Sentirás y entenderás el ministerio de la noche, su poder de purificar, separar, humillar, a destruir el temor a la muerte y lo que es más importante para ti en el momento, el temor a la vida. Aprenderás que a veces el dolor puede lograr lo que el gozo no puede hacer. Por ejemplo revelar la vanidad de las cosas insignificantes de este mundo. El sufrimiento puede llenar tu corazón con el deseo de la paz del cielo.
Lo que estoy escribiendo aquí no es nada original. Ha sido descubierto de nuevo por cada generación de cristianos que son buscadores. Es casi un cliché de la vida profunda pero tenemos que decirlo frecuentemente a esta generación de creyentes y con énfasis porque el tipo de cristianismo que está de moda ahora no incluye nada tan serio y difícil como esto. La búsqueda del cristiano moderno es la búsqueda da la paz mental y el gozo espiritual y a un cierto grado de la prosperidad material añadida como algo “extra” como si fuera una prueba externa del favor divino.
Algunos van a entender eso pero aún si el grupo es relativamente pequeño ese grupo va a y constituir el núcleo de los santos practicantes que será tan importante y necesario si en esta hora tan seria el cristianismo del nuevo testamento sobrevivirá hasta la generación venidera.

If God has singled you out to be a special object of His grace you may expect Him to honor you with stricter discipline and greater suffering than less favored ones are called upon to endure.
And right here let me anticipate the objection someone is sure to raise, viz., that God has no "specials" among His children. The Holy Scriptures and Christian history agree to show that He has. Star differs from star in glory among the saints on earth as well as among the glorified in heaven. Without question the differences exist; but whether they are by the decree of God or by His foreknowledge of the degree of receptivity He will find among His children I am not prepared to say with certainty, though I would lean strongly to the latter view.
If God sets out to make you an unusual Christian He is not likely to be as gentle as He is usually pictured by the popular teachers. A sculptor does not use a manicure set to reduce the rude, unshapely marble to a thing of beauty. The saw, the hammer and the chisel are cruel tools, but without them the rough stone must remain forever formless and unbeautiful.
To do His supreme work of grace within you He will take from your heart everything you love most. Everything you trust in will go from you. Piles of ashes will lie where your most precious treasures used to be.
This is not to teach the sanctifying power of poverty. If to be poor made men holy every tramp on a park bench would be a saint. But God knows the secret of removing things from our hearts while they still remain to us. What He does is to restrain us from enjoying them. He lets us have them but makes us psychologically unable to let our hearts go out to them. Thus they are useful without being harmful.
All this God will accomplish at the expense of the common pleasures that have up to that time supported your life and made it zestful. Now under the careful treatment of the Holy Spirit your life may become dry, tasteless and to some degree a burden to you. While in this state you will exist by a kind of blind will to live; you will find none of the inward sweetness you had enjoyed before. The smile of God will be for the time withdrawn, or at least hidden from your eyes. Then you will learn what faith is; you will find out the hard way, but the only way open to you, that true faith lies in the will, that the joy unspeakable of which the apostle speaks is not itself faith but a slow-ripening fruit. of faith; and you will learn that present spiritual joys may come and go as they will without altering your spiritual status or in any way affecting your position as a true child of the Heavenly Father. And you will also learn, probably to your astonishment, that it is possible to live in all good conscience before God and men and still feel nothing of the "peace and joy" you hear talked about so much by immature Christians. How long you continue in this night of the soul will depend upon a number of factors, some of which you may be able later to identify; while others will remain with God, completely hidden from you. The words "The day is thine, the night also is thine" will now be interpreted for you by the best of all teachers, the Holy Spirit; and you will know by personal experience what a blessed thing is the ministry of the night.
But there is a limit to man's ability to live without joy. Even Christ could endure the cross only because of the joy set before Him. The strongest steel breaks if kept too long under. unrelieved tension. God knows exactly how much pressure each one of us can take. He knows how long we can endure the night, so He gives the soul relief, first by welcome glimpses of the morning star and then by the fuller light that harbingers the morning.
Slowly you will discover God's love in your suffering. Your heart will begin to approve the whole thing. You will learn from yourself what all the schools in the world could not teach you—the healing action of faith without supporting pleasure. You will feel and understand the ministry of the night; its power to purify, to detach, to humble, to destroy the fear of death and, what is more important to you at the moment, the. fear of life. And you will learn that sometimes pain can do what even joy cannot, such as exposing the vanity of earth's trifles and filling your heart with longing for the peace of heaven.
What I write here is in no way original. This has been discovered anew by each generation of Christian seekers and' is almost a cliche of the deeper life. Yet it needs to be said to this generation of believers often and with emphasis, for the type of Christianity now in vogue does not include anything as serious and as difficult as this. The quest of the modern Christian is likely to be for peace of mind and spiritual joy, with a good degree of material prosperity thrown in as an external proof of the divine favor.
Some will understand this, however, even if the number is relatively small, and they will constitute the hard core of practicing saints so badly needed at this serious hour if New Testament Christianity is to survive to the next generation.

Si son por el decreto de Dios o por su conocimiento de antemano según el grado de la receptividad que El encontrará entre sus hijos no estoy preparado a proclamar con certeza aunque tiendo al último punto de vista.
Si Dios comienza a hacerte un cristiano no usual no es probable que El sea tan gentil contigo como lo pintan los maestros populares. El escultor no usa las herramientas de manicura para reducir el mármol crudo y sin forma a una cosa de belleza. La sierra, el martillo y el cincel son herramientas crudas pero sin ellas la piedra áspera quedaría sin forma y sin belleza para siempre.
Para hacer su obra de gracia suprema en ti El, quitará de tu corazón todo lo que amas más. Todo en lo que confías se tendrá que ir. Montones de ceniza quedarán donde tus tesoros mas preciosos estaban antes.
Eso no es para enseñar el poder santificador de la pobreza. Si ser pobre haría a los hombres santos cada pobre sentado en la banca fuera santo pero Dios sabe el secreto de extraer cosas de nuestros corazones que todavía siguen siendo importantes para nosotros. Lo que El hace es impedir que disfrutemos de ellas. Nos permite tenerlas todavía pero nos hace psicológicamente incapaces de dejar a nuestro corazón correr con ellas. Entonces llegan a ser útiles sin ser dañinas.
Dios logrará todo eso al costo de los placeres comunes que hasta aquel momento nos mantenían y nos daban una vida con garra. Ahora bajo el cuidado del Espíritu Santo tu vida llega a ser seca y sin sabor y en cierta forma una carga para ti. En este estado existirás solo por un deseo ciego de vivir. No encontrarás la dulzura interna que disfrutabas antes. La sonrisa de Dios estará retraída o escondida de tus ojos. Entonces aprenderás lo que es la fe y la lección será dura pero será el único camino abierto para ti. Aprenderás que la fe verdadera se encuentra en la voluntad y el gozo indescriptible de que habla el apóstol no es la fe sino el fruto que llega a la madurez muy lentamente. Aprenderás que los gozos espirituales del presente vienen y se van sin alterar tu estado espiritual y sin afectar tu posición espiritual como hijo verdadero del Padre Celestial. Aprenderás también y probablemente será sorprendente para ti, que es posible vivir con la conciencia limpia delante de los hombres y Dios sin experimentar la paz y el gozo de que hablabas como un cristiano inmaduro. El tiempo que te quedarás en la noche del alma así dependerá de varios factores algunos de los cuales podrás identificar mas tarde. Otros quedarán con Dios completamente escondidos de ti. Las palabras, “Tuyo es el día, tuya también es la noche” serán interpretadas para ti por el mejor de los maestros, el Espíritu Santo. Conocerás por experiencia propia la bendición que es el ministerio de la noche.
La capacidad del hombre de vivir sin gozo tiene un límite. Hasta Cristo solo pudo aguantar la cruz por el gozo puesto delante de él. El fiero más fuerte fractura si es bajo la tensión demasiado tiempo. Dios sabe exactamente cuanta presión cada uno de nosotros podemos aguantar. El sabe por cuanto tiempo podemos aguantar la noche y entonces nos da alivio. Primero nos da vislumbres de la estrella de la mañana y luego nos da la luz mas completa que viene en la mañana.
Poco a poco descubrirás el amor de Dios en medio de tu sufrimiento. Tu corazón comienza a aprobar todo el asunto. Aprenderás solito lo que todas las escuelas en el mundo no te podrían enseñar-la acción sanadora de la fe sin mantener el placer. Sentirás y entenderás el ministerio de la noche, su poder de purificar, separar, humillar, a destruir el temor a la muerte y lo que es más importante para ti en el momento, el temor a la vida. Aprenderás que a veces el dolor puede lograr lo que el gozo no puede hacer. Por ejemplo revelar la vanidad de las cosas insignificantes de este mundo. El sufrimiento puede llenar tu corazón con el deseo de la paz del cielo.
Lo que estoy escribiendo aquí no es nada original. Ha sido descubierto de nuevo por cada generación de cristianos que son buscadores. Es casi un cliché de la vida profunda pero tenemos que decirlo frecuentemente a esta generación de creyentes y con énfasis porque el tipo de cristianismo que está de moda ahora no incluye nada tan serio y difícil como esto. La búsqueda del cristiano moderno es la búsqueda da la paz mental y el gozo espiritual y a un cierto grado de la prosperidad material añadida como algo “extra” como si fuera una prueba externa del favor divino.
Algunos van a entender eso pero aún si el grupo es relativamente pequeño ese grupo va a y constituir el núcleo de los santos practicantes que será tan importante y necesario si en esta hora tan seria el cristianismo del nuevo testamento sobrevivirá hasta la generación venidera.

If God has singled you out to be a special object of His grace you may expect Him to honor you with stricter discipline and greater suffering than less favored ones are called upon to endure.
And right here let me anticipate the objection someone is sure to raise, viz., that God has no "specials" among His children. The Holy Scriptures and Christian history agree to show that He has. Star differs from star in glory among the saints on earth as well as among the glorified in heaven. Without question the differences exist; but whether they are by the decree of God or by His foreknowledge of the degree of receptivity He will find among His children I am not prepared to say with certainty, though I would lean strongly to the latter view.
If God sets out to make you an unusual Christian He is not likely to be as gentle as He is usually pictured by the popular teachers. A sculptor does not use a manicure set to reduce the rude, unshapely marble to a thing of beauty. The saw, the hammer and the chisel are cruel tools, but without them the rough stone must remain forever formless and unbeautiful.
To do His supreme work of grace within you He will take from your heart everything you love most. Everything you trust in will go from you. Piles of ashes will lie where your most precious treasures used to be.
This is not to teach the sanctifying power of poverty. If to be poor made men holy every tramp on a park bench would be a saint. But God knows the secret of removing things from our hearts while they still remain to us. What He does is to restrain us from enjoying them. He lets us have them but makes us psychologically unable to let our hearts go out to them. Thus they are useful without being harmful.
All this God will accomplish at the expense of the common pleasures that have up to that time supported your life and made it zestful. Now under the careful treatment of the Holy Spirit your life may become dry, tasteless and to some degree a burden to you. While in this state you will exist by a kind of blind will to live; you will find none of the inward sweetness you had enjoyed before. The smile of God will be for the time withdrawn, or at least hidden from your eyes. Then you will learn what faith is; you will find out the hard way, but the only way open to you, that true faith lies in the will, that the joy unspeakable of which the apostle speaks is not itself faith but a slow-ripening fruit. of faith; and you will learn that present spiritual joys may come and go as they will without altering your spiritual status or in any way affecting your position as a true child of the Heavenly Father. And you will also learn, probably to your astonishment, that it is possible to live in all good conscience before God and men and still feel nothing of the "peace and joy" you hear talked about so much by immature Christians. How long you continue in this night of the soul will depend upon a number of factors, some of which you may be able later to identify; while others will remain with God, completely hidden from you. The words "The day is thine, the night also is thine" will now be interpreted for you by the best of all teachers, the Holy Spirit; and you will know by personal experience what a blessed thing is the ministry of the night.
But there is a limit to man's ability to live without joy. Even Christ could endure the cross only because of the joy set before Him. The strongest steel breaks if kept too long under. unrelieved tension. God knows exactly how much pressure each one of us can take. He knows how long we can endure the night, so He gives the soul relief, first by welcome glimpses of the morning star and then by the fuller light that harbingers the morning.
Slowly you will discover God's love in your suffering. Your heart will begin to approve the whole thing. You will learn from yourself what all the schools in the world could not teach you—the healing action of faith without supporting pleasure. You will feel and understand the ministry of the night; its power to purify, to detach, to humble, to destroy the fear of death and, what is more important to you at the moment, the. fear of life. And you will learn that sometimes pain can do what even joy cannot, such as exposing the vanity of earth's trifles and filling your heart with longing for the peace of heaven.
What I write here is in no way original. This has been discovered anew by each generation of Christian seekers and' is almost a cliche of the deeper life. Yet it needs to be said to this generation of believers often and with emphasis, for the type of Christianity now in vogue does not include anything as serious and as difficult as this. The quest of the modern Christian is likely to be for peace of mind and spiritual joy, with a good degree of material prosperity thrown in as an external proof of the divine favor.
Some will understand this, however, even if the number is relatively small, and they will constitute the hard core of practicing saints so badly needed at this serious hour if New Testament Christianity is to survive to the next generation.
