1 Pedro 1:6-7
Esto es para ustedes motivo de gran alegría, a pesar de que hasta ahora han tenido que sufrir diversas pruebas por un tiempo.
El oro, aunque perecedero, se acrisola al fuego. Así también la fe de ustedes, que vale mucho más que el oro, al ser acrisolada por las pruebas demostrará que es digna de aprobación, gloria y honor cuando Jesucristo se revele.


Por lo general, nuestra condición mental debe ser la de gozo. “Esto es para ustedes motivo de gran alegría”. ¿Has recibido del evangelio algo si no tienes un gran gozo, si no te da alegría todos los días? Nuestro gozo viene de un manantial grande-Jesucristo mismo. ¿Eres tú, un discípulo? Si es así, ¿puedes soportar vivir bajo este estándar?

A pesar de este gozo podrías estar apenado por “diversas pruebas”. Efectivamente es tu gozo tremendo que te permite aguantarlas. ¿Qué es una prueba de fe? Es la presión exterior de las circunstancias, las olas que te golpean mientras que tú, te quedas firme sobre la Roca de la Eternidad, Jesucristo. Cristo fue probado. Era un vaso de cristal, lleno del agua más pura y a Satanás se le permitió sacudirlo para ver si había barro dentro, y no hubo.

La prueba de fe llegó a Abraham en una manera extraña. La amenaza fue quitarle a su hijo. Abraham fue aprobado en la prueba y siguió paso a paso hasta que Dios le dijo, “Ahora, sé que me temes, etc.” La prueba terminó con alabanza, honor y gloria. La prueba de fe podría llegar en la desilusión, cuando hemos confiado en aquellos. La prueba podría llegar directamente del diablo, podría llegar a través de la iglesia, podría venir por las persecuciones y la prisión. Es natural sentir estas pruebas. Abajo, en la depresión de la ola, y luego en la cresta, esa fue la experiencia de Pablo. Es por un tiempo no más.

El interés profundo de Dios en la prueba de la fe.

Dios dice que la fe es mucho más importante que la prueba de fuego del orfebre. Se dice que el orfebre espera hasta ver su cara reflejada en el oro. Así sabe que el oro está listo a ser sacado del fuego. ¡Si hubiésemos visto con que interés El Padre miraba a Su Hijo amado cuando fue probado en el monte de la tentación y en el monte Calvario! Igual es con los miembros de Su cuerpo.

Se dice, “Cuan preciosa a los ojos del Señor la muerte de sus hijos y la palabra es literalmente “punzadas de muerte” en otras palabras, lo que ellos podrían estar sufriendo en el momento de su muerte. El Señor les mira con interés intenso. Tienes pruebas multiplicadas; ¿estás murmurando? Dices, “Es muy duro”. ¿Lo dirías a Dios? El está al lado y está diciendo, “¡Mira como la fe sustenta esta disciplina mía! Míralo en los ojos y podrás aguantar “la prueba”.
El resultado del proceso.


“Digna de aprobación, gloria y honor”. Será la alabanza, gloria y honor a Dios porque veremos que todos sus caminos son excelentes. Un puritano viejo dijo, “Una rama en el agua parece torcida, sácala y verás que es derecho. Así será cuando fijamos en la forma en que Dios trata con nosotros. Cuando vemos todo, hablando de nuestras penas amargas, diremos que hubiera sido poco amable por parte de Dios no enviarlas a nosotros.

Pero será para nuestra aprobación, gloria y honra también. Los ángeles nos servirán aún con más ganas porque nunca dejamos ninguna duda acerca del amor de Dios entrar a nuestra mente. Tendremos más gloria si hemos tenido que pasar por más pruebas de la fe. Seremos recompensados no solo por el trabajo que hemos hecho sino, por lo que hemos cargado. Tal vez, los premios más brillantes serán dados a aquellos que han cargado sus cargas pesadas sin murmurar. ¿No es que frecuentemente dices, “ que llegue el día cuando Dios revelará a Su Hijo Jesucristo.”

En aquel día, él tomará el lirio que ha crecido en medio de las espinas y lo levantará a la gloria y todo el universo estará maravillado. El olor fragrante de este lirio provocará las alabanzas inefables de los huestes celestiales.

“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ…”- 1 Peter 1:6-7


The prevailing state of our mind should be great joy - ‘In this you greatly rejoice.’ Have you got at the Gospel at all if you have not great joy, if it does not every day make you glad? Our joy comes from a great Fountain - Christ Himself. Are you a disciple? Then can you bear to live below this standard?
In spite of this joy you may be ‘grieved by various trials.’ Indeed, it is your great joy that enables you to bear them. What is the trial of faith? It is the outward pressure of circumstances, the waves dashing upon you as you stand on the Rock of Ages. Christ was tried. He was the crystal vessel, full of the purest water, and Satan was allowed to shake it to see if there was any mud in it, and there was not.
The trial of faith came to Abraham in a strange way, threatening to bereave him of his beloved son. Abraham stood the test, and went on step by step till God said, ‘Now I know that you fearest Me,’ etc., and the trial ended in ‘praise, and honour, and glory.’ The ‘trial of faith’ may come in disappointment in those we trusted in; it may come directly from the devil it may come from the state of the church; it may come from persecutions, bonds, imprisonments. It is quite natural to feel these trials. Down in the trough of the wave, then up again on the crest; that was Paul’s experience. Then it is only ‘for a season.’
God’s deep interest in the trial of faith
He says it is much more important than the goldsmith’s trial of his gold. It is said that the goldsmith waits till he sees his face reflected in the gold, then he knows it is ready to be taken out. If we had seen with what intense interest the Father watched His beloved Son when He was ‘tried’ on the mount of temptation and on Mount Calvary! So with the members of His body.
It is said, ‘Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints,’ and the word is literally ‘deathpangs’ - what they may be suffering at the time of their death. The Lord watches them with intense interest. You have multiplied trials; are you murmuring? Do you say ‘It is very hard’? Would you say that to God? He is standing by and saying, ‘See how faith sustains this disciple of mine!’ Catch His eye, and you will be able to bear the ‘trial.’
The result of this process
‘Found to praise, honor, and glory ‘ It will be to God’s praise and honour and glory, for we will see that all His ways are excellent. An old Puritan says, ‘A stick in the water looks crooked. Take it out, and it is quite straight.’ So it will be when we look at God’s dealings with us. When we see all, we will say of our bitterest sorrows that it would have been unkind in God not to have sent them.
But it will be to our praise and honour and glory too. Angels will serve us all the more willingly because we never permitted a doubt or surmise of God’s love to enter our mind. We shall have the greater glory, the more we have borne the trial of our faith. We are to be rewarded, not only for work done, but for burdens borne, and I am not sure but that the brightest rewards will be for those who have borne burdens without murmuring. Are you not often saying, ‘Oh, that that day would arrive, when God will reveal His Son Jesus Christ!’
On that day He will take the lily that has been growing so long among thorns and lift it up to the glory and wonder of all the universe, and the fragrance of that lily will draw forth ineffable praises from all the hosts of heaven.
