Mateo 19-20 Matthew 19-20

Matthew 20:20-23a
20Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him. 21And He said to her, “What do you wish?” She said to Him, “Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.” 22But Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They said to Him, “We are able.” 23So He said to them, “You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with;[1]

I taught on Matthew chapters 19 and 20 on Sunday morning. Chapters 19 and 20 have to do with waiting on the Lord and trusting in His goodness. Learning that we don’t need a contract signed by Him to know that everything will be fine in the end is part of the teaching. . For example, chapter 19 starts off with the discussion about divorce. Divorce takes place when people don’t honor their commitments. They aren’t willing to stick it out for the long haul because of either some momentary pleasure that causes them to lose something that brings long term satisfaction. In the case of others, they’re not willing to suffer some momentary hardship or pain in their marriage so that they can enjoy long term satisfaction through that relationship. It’s so great to know that God isn’t like that. One day we will be presented to Jesus as His bride and we will spend eternity with Him. It will be great.
One of the things that I didn’t mention when teaching the verses above is important.
In these verses we see among other things that the disciples thought that they were more prepared than they actually were. They lacked a lot of understanding yet. They had no idea what their ministry would entail. Their chance to minister to the world is still awaiting them at this point. Their time for drinking the cup of suffering will come and it will come at the right time. I know several people that are just dying to get to the mission field. If you’re in that position, if you feel called to a certain ministry and you just can’t wait to get started, don’t worry. You’re time will come soon enough. Until then you will miss out on a lot of what Jesus wants to teach you if you’re so fixated on the ministry that awaits you in the future. Listen to His voice today. Even when you get to the mission field or start that ministry that you’ve waited so long for the best thing about ministry will always be just walking along side the savior and seeing what He does. Listening to His voice will still be more awesome than the ministry itself.

Mateo 20:20-23a
Entonces se le acercó la madre de los hijos de Zebedeo con sus hijos, postrándose ante él y pidiéndole algo. El le dijo: ¿Qué quieres? Ella le dijo: Ordena que en tu reino se sienten estos dos hijos míos, el uno a tu derecha, y el otro a tu izquierda. Entonces Jesús respondiendo, dijo: No sabéis lo que pedís. ¿Podéis beber del vaso que yo he de beber, y ser bautizados con el bautismo con que yo soy bautizado? Y ellos le dijeron: Podemos. El les dijo: A la verdad, de mi vaso beberéis, y con el bautismo con que yo soy bautizado, seréis bautizados;
