Hebrews 6 Hebreos 6

Hebrews 6:11-12
11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end,12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

I was talking with my son Marco about an old television show that I used to watch when I was a kid. He asked me if it was a show in “white and black”. Then he asked me if it was from the time when people walked fast. At first I didn’t get it and then I realized he was talking about the old movies. He didn’t realize that the movies weren’t filmed in real time like today. He thought that the people used to walk faster. I guess he’s seen an old movie somewhere.
I was meditating on our conversation when I realized that a lot of young Christians think the same way regarding their spiritual walk. They look at the older mature Christians around them and think that they got to that level of maturity really quickly. They walked faster than the Christians of today. Many times the “leaders” make us think that way too. They tend to forget their struggles in the early years. They tend to emphasize the great victories because they want to encourage us but in the long run they discourage most of us. Being a missionary I have stopped reading missionary magazines for instance. I’m tired of hearing about the missionaries that got to the field and had 5000 people attending their church within the first 50 days. I am greatly encouraged when I read the Bible because we see real people with real struggles just like you and me. We see that in the long run they were molded and used by the Lord because they didn’t stop walking with Him. . It wasn’t easy. They blew it sometimes, but God was faithful.

If your marriage problems haven’t been solved by adhering to the “5 easy steps to a happy marriage” and your life wasn’t completely transformed in 40 days be encouraged. If your ministry hasn’t grown as quickly as the ministries grew back in the old times be encouraged. God definitely did some great things in the past. There were moments of glory. There were trials and disappointments too. The old guys didn’t really walk faster than you. It just seems that way to them. The important thing is to keep walking.

Hebreos 6:11-12

I am so encouraged. It's good to get a realistic view of missions. I've read so many books... I'm so glad He helps us with longsuffering. I know we are going to need it greatly when the time comes. It's totally awesome to see pics of Puente Piedra, too!
