Pronto Vendrá El Invierno Winter Will Come Soon

The weather is changing here, in Peru, as it will soon be winter. We can feel the temperature change already at night and it’s much cooler than it was even a month ago. We can see the changes in the way some people dress too, and before long they will be leaving the house in the morning prepared for the cold. Everyone will be bundled up with sweaters and jackets. Mothers and fathers will be concerned about the way their children leave the house. Where’s your sweater? Don’t take that jacket off outside! You aren’t thinking of going out dressed like that are you?

As Christians, we’re living in cold times, spiritually speaking, and the need to bundle up spiritually is more important than ever. I’m amazed that there are people that have been Christians for years but they give no thought to the way they prepare themselves spiritually before leaving the house each day. I mentioned last week that I’m going to write a few articles about this topic and I’d like to just mention some things that Paul, a spiritual father, shared with spiritual children a long time ago. Paul wanted to make sure that the children were dressed properly and ready to face the cold, spiritual world as well. Here we go.

In the same way that it would be absurd to go to work wearing a long overcoat to prepare for the harsh winter, while keeping the bathing suit on that we wore to the beach all summer, the Apostle Paul mentions that to be prepared for the day, the first thing that we have to do is take some things off. And you thought that God had no sense of fashion!

Paul wrote to the Colossians in chapter 3, verses 8-9 saying, “But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds…”

We see that Paul mentions sins that seem to be small and unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but they are so important for us, as Christians. Number one in the list is anger. This word can also be translated vengeance. To start your day, make sure that you’re not leaving the house thinking about how you can get someone back for what they did to you yesterday. Just take that anger off and refuse to go out of the house dressed like that. Walking around with anger on, is the way people dress that don’t know the Lord. They think that it looks just fine, but you’ve got to remember that people who don’t know the Lord are blind, and therefore, they have very poor taste when it comes to spiritual color coordination, style, etc. The bright red of anger or vengeance doesn’t look good on you at all!

Jesus said, “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those that trespass against us.” He also said that the person that has been forgiven much, loves much.

It's exciting to think about it getting colder in Peru. That means it's closer to when we'll be arriving. We are ready. We are staying with Brian Thacker from Calvary Brentwood. It gets us excited. We can't wait!!!
