La Gran Mentira The Big Lie

“Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.” [1]
Colossians 3:9-10

We started looking at this passage on the 12th of April. I’ve been writing about the things that Paul tells us we have to take off. I write about it when I have time so thanks for being patient with me. If you haven’t been reading along with us you can go back to the first day that I started writing on this passage and then catch up.

Well in light of this passage, I don’t want to lie to you, lying is a significant issue in the church today. It can be hard to find sincere people in the religious organization known as the church. Many of us are so used to saying what we think the other person wants to hear. We lie because we don’t want to offend or because we don’t want to be offended. We lie because it’s just easier to lie. Some of us even live a lie and we do it so well that we’ve convinced ourselves that it’s the truth.

Paul tells us that this is part of the old man. The old man was always worried about what other people think or worried about finding a way to escape responsibility. The new man is being conformed to the image of Christ.

One of the things that I love about Jesus is that when we study His life, we see that He was genuine and real. He didn’t tell people things just to make them feel better. He spoke the truth in love. He wasn’t so concerned about what others thought because He was concerned, first and foremost, with what His Father in heaven thought. Offending His Father was much worse than offending man. His truth was a breath of fresh air for the people longing for something other than political correctness or religiosity but He made a lot of enemies as well. It’s still the same today. There are a lot of people that prefer a sweet lie. To identify with Jesus means to live and tell the truth when the people prefer a lie. Jesus is Truth.
