El Misionero The Missionary

Hace unos años un misionero de largo tiempo aquí en El Perú llegó a mi casa para conversar. Yo estaba emocionado por conocerlo y aprender de él. El vivía en Ayacucho en medio del movimiento terrorista. He enseñado la Biblia en una iglesia de gente que habla quechua fundada por él. Ayacucho es el lugar donde Sendero Luminoso comenzó a poner terror en todo El Perú. Mucha gente fue asesinada por sus acciones. Cualquier misionero “gringo” que tenía el coraje de quedarse allí en medio de todo el peligro merecía ser escuchado. Su vida estaba en peligro constantemente y él predicaba la palabra en lugares donde ningún policía se atrevía ir.

Con mucha anticipación en cuanto a la respuesta le pregunté, “Cual es el consejo que Ud. me podría dar siendo yo un misionero joven y sin experiencia.” Su respuesta…”Sed santo. Vive una vida digna de tu llamado. Hemos tenido demasiados misioneros y pastores que no han sido santos. No necesitamos mas de ellos.”

A few years ago a long time missionary here in Peru came to my house for a visit. I was so excited to meet him and learn from him. He lived in Ayacucho in the middle of the terrorist movement. I have taught the Bible in a church of Quechuas that he founded. Ayacucho is the place where the Shining Path movement began here in Peru. Many, many people were killed as a result of their actions. Any “gringo” missionary that had the courage to stick it out in those dangerous times deserved to be heard. After all, his life was in constant danger and he preached the gospel in areas where no police officer dared to go.

With great anticipation regarding the answer I asked him, “What is the advice that you would give to a young and inexperienced missionary like me? His answer… be holy, live a life worthy of your calling. We’ve had enough missionaries and pastors that aren’t holy. We don’t need any more of them.
