El rey David tenía hombres poderosos. La Biblia dice que eran hombres de mucho valor y muy importantes para David y todo el pueblo de Israel. Ganaron las victorias en muchas batallas y eran héroes en Israel pero hoy día la mayoría de nosotros no podríamos nombrar ni uno de ellos. Algún los conoceremos en el cielo.

Yo tengo una lista de héroes modernos. Hay hombres y mujeres que Dios está usando en grandes maneras en nuestro mundo pero la mayoría de las personas en mi lista de héroes son personas desconocidas. Es precisamente por este motivo que están en mi lista, porque sirven a Dios en una forma tan fiel sin buscar el aplauso y reconocimiento del mundo.

Conocí un héroe nuevo ayer. Por unos años ya, mi hija Anna ha querido aprender a tocal el violín. Teníamos 2 problemas. No conocíamos a ninguna persona que enseña violín en Lima y no teníamos un instrumento. Hace unos meses nos enteramos que la profesora que enseña a nuestros hijos portugués está aprendiendo a tocar violín. Ayer recibimos la noticia que un profesor de dirige el orquesta en un colegio cristiano quería regalarle a Anna un violín. Pensamos que el instrumento iba a ser una bendición muy grande y ciertamente fue así pero la bendición más grande fue conocer al profesor. Poder observar como el profesor trataba a los estudiantes fue impresionante. El amor de Cristo realmente fluye a través de este hombre. Solo al estar allí en su presencia yo fui edificado y animado a acercarme más a Cristo. Solo con el tiempo veremos el fruto completo de este hombre. Solo Dios sabe como el ministerio de este hombre cambiará el mundo. Su vida está afectando a los estudiantes en una manera poderosa para el reino de Dios. El amor y respeto que los estudiantes tienen para este profesor es tan evidente. En la noche me enteré que este hombre y su esposa han adoptado a 2 niños con necesidades especiales. Su ministerio continúa.

A veces pensamos que no hay mucha esperanza pare el mundo pero es una bendición tremenda ver como Dios está obrando tremendamente usando las vidas de hombres y mujeres que están dispuestos servirle donde estén. Aquellas personas impactarán nuestro mundo mucho más que los políticos, terroristas y falsos profetas al largo plazo. No estamos solos en nuestro servicio al rey. Hay muchos que están sirviendo al rey aunque no son reconocidos por el mundo. Hebreos 11 dice que el mundo no los merece.

¿O no sabéis qué dice de Elías la Escritura, cómo invoca a Dios contra Israel, diciendo: Señor, a tus profetas han dado muerte, y tus altares han derribado; y sólo yo he quedado, y procuran matarme? Pero ¿qué le dice la divina respuesta? Me he reservado siete mil hombres, que no han doblado la rodilla delante de Baal. Así también aun en este tiempo ha quedado un remanente escogido por gracia. Romanos 11:2B-5


1 Chronicles 11:10 “These also [are] the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, [and] with all Israel…”

David had his mighty men; they’re described as men of valor. They were men that were so important to David and the people of Israel. They won great victories and were the heroes in Israel but today, most of us couldn’t name a single one of them. One day we’ll meet them in heaven.

I have a list of modern day heroes. There are men and women that are being used of God in great ways. Most of the people on my list of heroes are people that you have probably never heard of and it’s precisely for that reason that they’re my heroes. They’re people that are serving God and don’t necessarily receive a lot of attention for what they do.

I met a new hero yesterday. For a number of years now my daughter Anna has wanted to learn to play the violin. We had two problems though. Number one was that we didn’t know of anyone that taught violin in Peru. The second was that we didn’t have a violin. Several months ago we found out that the children’s Portuguese teacher is taking violin lessons; one problem solved. I won’t bore you with the details but yesterday we were put into contact with the orchestra teacher at a local Christian school. He offered to give Anna a violin for free. We were so excited to pick up the free violin thinking that the instrument would be a great blessing. It is a blessing but the best blessing was meeting the teacher. Seeing the way he interacted with the students was one of the most edifying experiences I’ve had in a long time. The students responded to the teacher with so much love and respect it was amazing. The love of Christ is so evident in this man’s life. Being in his presence, I was encouraged in such a great way. Time will only tell how this man’s life affects those students for the kingdom. Later that evening I learned that this man and his wife have adopted two special needs children.

At times we think that there isn’t much hope for this world. What a great blessing it is to see how God is working in tremendous ways through men and women committed to serve Him where they are. They will have much more impact on our world in the long run than any politician, terrorist or false prophet. We are not alone in our service to the king. There are many that are serving the Lord today even though the world doesn’t recognize them. As Hebrews 11 says, the world in not worthy of them.

Or do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying, 3 “LORD, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life”?[a] 4 But what does the divine response say to him? “I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”[b] 5 Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. Romans 11:2b-5
