Los Ayudantes The Helpers

Un buen día A good day

Today has been a day of a lot of physical work. We started at 7:30 a.m and it’s 9:13 p.m. now. It’s been a good day because we accomplished a lot. We knocked down a small living room took a tree and some plants out, cleaned about 16 bathrooms and did other things as well. Thanks to those who helped out. Tomorrow will be another work day in the new building and Sunday all the Peruvians will go to vote. We won’t have a church meeting in Villa Maria on Saturday night. We won’t be meeting in Surco on Sunday morning or in Carabayllo on Sunday afternoon either because it’s against the law to have a public meeting here in Peru on elections day.

Ya lo tenemos We've got it.

We’ve got the building. This afternoon we signed the contract at 6:30. Finally! Thanks to God for His provision and thanks to everyone that prayed and helped in so many ways to make this purchase a reality. I know that in many cases helping us wasn’t an easy decision. I know that you really sacrificed so that you could help. We don’t take your sacrifice lightly.
Now it’s time to get to work. We have to put a roof on the carport so that we can have our meetings there. We’ll do it kind of rustic but nice. We have to fix the plumbing in the first floor, paint, etc.
I really want to see missionaries of the future studying and ministering as a consequence of what happens between the walls of the building. Look for the pictures in the coming days. I’ll be sending them when I can.

Mateo 6:34 Matthew 6:34

Mateo 6:34

Mateo 6:34
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.[1]

I wrote about Matthew 6:33 yesterday. I wrote about the need to seek the kingdom of God. Seeking the kingdom of God without seeking God is impossible. I’ve been a little worried lately thinking about the decisions that we have to make. How many rooms were going to rent, how many rooms we’ll need for the groups that are coming. I was worrying about how we’re going to fix up the building, how we’re going to pay the monthly payment. How much the electricity will cost. How much the water will cost. This morning I was studying the book of Acts and I saw again how Paul was led by the Spirit step by step. It’s good to make plans sometimes. It’s even better to wait on instructions from the Lord each day and let God reveal His plan little by little.

This morning I was praying for the people of the church that don’t have a job. I prayed for the people that have jobs but still can’t make ends meet too. Tonight I’m praying for patience with the people that work in the bank and take too long to do their job. We were supposed to sign the papers to close on the building here in Surco on Monday. It’s now Wednesday night. We keep waiting. They keep telling us “yes” and nothing happens. I’m writing about it because I know that some of you want here the latest on what’s happening. Keep praying. We have to occupy the building because we need to do a lot of fixing up.

Buscando Trabajo Looking for Work

Today I’m really praying for the people in the church that don’t have a job and for the people that have a job but their salary doesn’t provide enough for their basic expenses. Sometimes the situation here makes my sad but I know that God is faithful. We have to trust Him and remember Matthew 6:33. Let’s seek the Lord together.

Don’t forget that there will be no church service this Sunday 9 of April. Everyone has to go vote. We’re encouraging everyone from Surco to accompany us to Villa Maria on Saturday afternoon.

Vamos a Mudarnos We're going to Move

John 14:1-3
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.[1]

As you know, we’re in the process of purchasing a building for the church in Surco. That means a move for the church and a move for the Vander Kodde family. The other day I was thinking about the best places I have lived. My wife and I have lived in a number of places since marriage and I lived in a number of places as a single guy too. I do have my favorites. Getting back to the present… I think about how the new building will be used for the glory of God and the memories that will be made there. I think about the changes we will make to the building and the changes that God will make in our lives while we’re there. Then I think about how great it will be to get to the new “building” that Jesus is making for us. I already know that one day soon my list of the top places I have lived will change dramatically and in an instant.

2 Timothy 4:18
And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. [2]
Hebrews 11:16
6But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country.[3]

I’m ready to go. How about you?

Juan 14:1-3

Hebreos 11:16
Pero anhelaban una mejor, esto es, celestial;

Ya estoy listo para irme. ¿Y tú?

Gente que trabaja en el barrio People that work in the Neighborhood

Acts 16:14
Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.[1]

It’s a great ministry. It’s a blessing. It’s an opportunity. What am I talking about? I’m talking about the people that have a ministry in the workplace. Here we read about Lydia. She was a businesswoman and she was a woman that worshipped the Lord without really knowing Him. God opened up her heart to believe as Paul taught. We know that Lydia continued in the faith because verse 40 says, “they went out of the prison and entered the house of Lydia; and when they had seen the brethren, they encouraged them and departed.”[2]
If you are at work today, remember that your workplace is a great place to get to know people and minister to them. It may be that some of the business people are already seeking the Lord and just need someone to share the word of God with them. Let’s pray for the people in the church that work secular jobs. Working in the world is a great ministry. It’s a blessing and it’s an opportunity.

Hechos 16:14

Sunday as a church

We had a great time at church this morning. The worship was great and there are several people coming to church that aren’t Christians yet. Let’s remember to pray for them during the week. I love it when God brings people to us that don’t know Him yet. I love it even more when they hang around to talk afterwards. Pastor Jaime and Silvia dedicated their newborn Esteban Josue to the Lord. That was nice too. I love holding babies and praying for them.
By the way, someone asked for pictures of the church. It’s hard for me to take pictures on a meeting day because I’m busy talking to the people. This morning Carlos took some pictures in Surco and then took some more in Puente Piedra in the afternoon. Here are a few.

Tomorrow will be an important day in the discipleship school. We’re going to be talking about the topic of loaning money and materials as Christians. We’ll talk about how to decide who to help and in what circumstances we help people as a church. These are crucial topics for the world that we live in today. These topics go very well with the topic we talked about a few weeks ago. Three weeks ago we talked about manipulators. Tomorrow we’ll need God’s wisdom and balance to be able to understand.

By the way, keep sending in those questions. You can send them here where it says comments or you can send them to brianvanderkodde@bandalibre.com You can send them mentioning your name or as an anonymous person. You would just have to click on anonymous. As of today we have received a grand total of 0 questions! I can’t believe that there isn’t a single question that has come up while you’ve been reading your Bible or regarding a situation that has come up in your life. Maybe you have a question about the ministry here in Surco, Villa Maria or Puente Piedra too. If you like, you can send us prayer requests too and we’ll pray for you.

Peticiones Prayer Requests

We have to pray for Americo's mom because she's in the hospital y for Marissa Rojas because she's got a really bad migraine headache.

El Edificio Nuevo en Surco The New Building in Surco

Some people want to know what the new building in Surco is like. I have taken a photo of one side of the building. Obviously the building is bigger than what is shown in the picture. We’ll be using this building for housing missionaries, teaching classes, ministering to the people, etc. Keep praying for all the paperwork. Don’t forget that we need some boxes. We’ll see how the building changes through the year.

Tormentas Storms

The Christian finds safety not in the absence of danger but in the presence of God.
