¿Donde Estoy? Where am I?

Tal vez se han dado cuenta que no estoy escribiendo en el blog. He estado ocupado en otras cosas y alejándome un poco del internet por un tiempo. No quiero pasar mi vida frente a una pantalla. Escribiré más en el futuro pero por el momento estoy contento enseñando la Biblia, ministrando a la gente y dejando a Dios hablarme. Estoy tratando de pasar más tiempo en oración. No soy tan joven como antes y quiero dedicar los años que me quedan a pasar tiempo con el Señor. El hará mucho más a través de la oración que cualquier cosa. Estoy más y más convencido de eso.

Maybe you’ve noticed that I haven’t been writing in the blog. I’ve been busy doing other things and staying away from the internet for awhile. I don’t want to spend my life in front of a computer screen. I’ll be writing again in the future but for the moment, I’m happy to be teaching the Bible, ministering to the people and allowing the Lord to speak to me. I’m trying to spend more time in prayer. I’m not as young as I used to be and I want to dedicate as much time as I can in the years I have left to spending time with the Lord. He’ll do much more through prayer than any other thing. I’m more and more convinced of that.

Nada Todavía. Nothing Yet.

No estoy escribiendo nada en el blog estos días porque estoy meditando en algo y estoy buscando la forma de ponerlo en papel. Me está costando porque no quiero que sea muy largo. Tiene que ver con Juan el Bautista. Dios mediante, lo voy a tener listo en unos días, por mientras voy a poner más cosas que otros han dicho que son muy buenas. De todos modos, lo que han dicho es mejor que lo que tengo que decir. Gracias por su comprensión.

I’m not writing anything in the blog these days because I’ve been meditating on something and I looking for the way to put it down on paper. It’s giving me a little trouble because I don’t want it to be too long. It has to do with John the Baptist. God willing, I’ll have it done in a few days. In the mean time I’ll keep putting some great things that others have said. They’re better than what I have to say anyway. Thanks for your understanding.

Orando Por Líderes Radicales. Praying for Radical Leaders

Aquí en Koinonia Surco estamos orando para que Dios levante líderes radicales. La iglesia de hoy, y el mundo de hoy necesita hombres de fe. La mies es mucha pero los obreros son pocos. Pensando en eso, pongo algo que dijo A.W. Tozer hace muchos años ya.

Esta hora espantosa llama en voz alta por hombres con el don de entendimiento profético, en cambio tenemos hombres que realizan encuestas, sondean votos y participan en discusiones en panel. Necesitamos a hombres con el don de conocimiento. En vez de eso, tenemos a hombres de erudición- y nada más.


Here in Koinonia Surco we're praying that God will raise up radical leaders. The church of today, and todays' world needs men of faith. The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. With this in mind, I'm posting something that A.W. Tozer said so many years ago now.

This frightening hour calls aloud for men with the gift of prophetic insight. Instead we have men who conduct surveys, polls and panel discussions. We need men with the gift of knowledge. In their place we have men with scholarship---nothing more.

La Ira Wrath

Como Cristianos, no creemos en los siete pecados capitales. La Biblia nos enseña que la paga del pecado es muerte. Sabemos que la Biblia nos enseña que cualquier pecado nos quita la gloria de Dios y si no fuera por la gracia de Dios serguiriamos siendo objetos de la ira de Dios. Gracias a la muerte de Jesucristo en la cruz y Su resurección de entre los muertos, cualquiera que pone su fe en Cristo será salvo. No importa el pecado que ha cometido. Dios es fiel.

El Apostol Pablo, si nos da una lista de los pecados carnales. Se encuentra en Gálatas 5 donde dice, "Y manifiestas son las obras de la carne, que son: adulterio, fornicación, inmundicia, lascivia, idolatría, hechicerías, enemistades, pleitos, celos, iras, contiendas, disensiones, herejías, envidias, homicidios, borracheras, orgías, y cosas semejantes a estas; acerca de las cuales os amonesto, como ya os lo he dicho antes, que los que practican tales cosas no heredarán el reino de Dios”.

Después de explicar todo esto pondo lo siguiente escrito acerca de la ira. Me gusta la descripción de lo que hace la ira en la vida de uno aquí.

Posiblemente, la ira sea el más divertido de los siete pecados capitales. Lamer tus propias heridas, volver a sentir en tus labios el sabor de los agravios del pasado, mover tu lengua mientras prevés aquellas amargas confrontaciones que están por venir, probar hasta el último bocado del dolor que te han causado y de aquel que tú has provocado… Verdaderamente es un banquete digno de un rey. Sólo hay un inconveniente: estás devorándote a ti mismo. El plato principal de este gran banquete eres tú.

As Christians, we don´t believe in the Seven Deadly Sins. We know that the Bible teaches that any sin and all sin makes us fall short of the glory of God. If it wasn´t for the grace of God we would all continue to be objects of His wrath. Thanks to the death of our Lord on the cross and His resurrection, anyone that puts their faith in Christ alone will be saved. It doesn´t matter what sin he has committed because God is faithful.

The Apostle Paul does give us a list of carnal sins. It´s found in Galatians 5 where he says, "Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God".

After having explained the above, I do like the following description of the sin of wrath and what it does to us.

"Of the Seven Deadly Sins, anger is possibly the most fun. To lick your wounds,to smack your lips over grievances long past, to roll over your tongue the prospect of bitter confrontations still to come, to savor to the last toothsome morsel both the pain you are given and the pain you are giving back -- in many ways it is a feast fit for a king. The chief drawback is that what you are wolfing down is yourself. The skeleton at the feast is you."

¿Orar Por Gente Desconocida? Pray For People I Don't Know?

Vi esta foto en un blog y comencé a orar por esta madre y su hijo. Viven en China. Es muy probable que nunca voy a conocerlos en este mundo pero estoy orando por ellos. La oración tiene mucho poder porque podemos hablar con el Dios que es omnipresente. Tal vez podrías orar por las personas que ves cuando estás caminando en la calle o cuando subes a un micro hoy día. Dios te podría dar la oportunidad de ver a la persona en el cielo. ¿Quién sabe?

I saw this photo in a blog and I began to pray for this mother and her son. They live in China. It’s very probable that I will never know them in this world but I’m praying for them. Pray is powerful because we can talk with the God that is omnipresent. Maybe you could pray for the people you see when you’re walking down the street or getting on a bus today. God could give you the opportunity to meet those people in heaven one day. Who knows?

Los Ancianos The Elderly

He escrito en el blog acerca de los jóvenes que Dios ha usado en el pasado. En la lista están Daniel, Timoteo, Jeremías, el chico que regaló sus panes y pescaditos al Señor para que los multiplicara. Lo bueno es que Dios utilizaba a los ancianos también. Abraham y Sara, Moisés, Zacarías y Elizabet, Simeón, Ana, y el Apóstol Juan cuando estaba en la isla de Patmos. Ya no soy tan joven como antes y espero seguir con ganas al Señor. Mientras que pasan los años, si sigo buscando a Dios, seré más útil por la experiencia.

Que los ancianos sean sobrios, serios, prudentes, sanos en la fe, en el amor, en la paciencia. Las ancianas asimismo sean reverentes en su porte; no calumniadoras, no esclavas del vino, maestras del bien; que enseñen a las mujeres jóvenes a amar a sus maridos y a sus hijos, a ser prudentes, castas, cuidadosas de su casa, buenas, sujetas a sus maridos, para que la palabra de Dios no sea blasfemada.

I´ve written in the past about the young people that God has used. People like Daniel, Timothy, Jeremiah, and the boy with the loaves and the fish that the Lord multiplied. The good thing is that God uses older people too. Abraham, Moses, Zachariah and Elizabeth, Simeon, Anna and the Apostle John when he was on the island of Patmos. I´m not as young as I used to be but I still want to serve the Lord with enthusiasm. If I keep seeking the Lord, I´ll me even more useful to His kingdom as the years go by because of the experience I have.

Simeón Proclama Simeon Proclaims

Ahora, Señor, despides a tu siervo en paz, conforme a tu palabra; porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación, la cual has preparado en presencia de todos los pueblos; Luz para revelación a los gentiles, y gloria de tu pueblo Israel.
Lucas 2:29-32

Las palabras que he puesto arriba fueron habladas por Simeón. Simeón vivía antes de la muerte y resurrección de Cristo y solo lo vio cuando era bebé, sin embargo el Espíritu Santo estaba sobre él. El menciona en su proclamación que Jesús fue enviado por todos los pueblos y naciones y dado como la gloria de Israel. Parece que muchos tienden a ir a un extremo u otro. O se olviden que Jesús fue enviado a las naciones y solo se preocupan por su propio pueblo y se olvidan de Israel. Sigamos orando por Israel mientras que estamos alcanzando a las naciones con las buenas nuevas. Ora por los misioneros que conoces hoy día. Ora para que Dios te use en una forma más grande y más eficaz para alcanzar a las naciones también.




“Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word; for my eyes have seen Your salvation which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel.” [1]
Luke 2:29-32,

The words above were spoken by Simeon. The Bible says that even though he lived before the death and resurrection of Christ and only saw Jesus as a baby boy in the temple that the Holy Spirit was upon him. He mentions in his proclamation that Jesus was sent for all peoples and given as the glory of Israel. It seems that some either want to go to one extreme or the other. They tend to forget that Jesus was given for the nations and concentrate on their own people group or they forget about Israel. Let’s keep praying for Israel as we focus on bringing the gospel to the nations. Pray for missionaries that you know today. Pray that God will use you in a greater and more effective way to reach the nations as well.

James Kurtz

¿Niños Ministrando? Children Ministering?

“El niño Samuel, por su parte, vestido con un *efod de lino, seguía sirviendo en la presencia del Señor.” 1 Samuel 2:18

Creo que fue la esposa de D.L. Moody que le preguntó a su esposo acerca de cuantas personas habían recibido a Cristo durante el día. Moody dijo, “13 ½.” (No me acuerdo el número exacto pero me acuerdo que dijo un número que tenía 1/2.) Su esposa se quedó pensando, porque no entendíó porque su esposo había dicho un número así. Pensó que había entendido y dijo, “ya sé, la mitad se refiere a un niño.” Moody dijo que era lo contrario. La mitad se refería a un hombre de mediana edad porque solo iba a tener la mitad de su vida para ofrecer a Dios en Su servicio. A lo contrario, los niños podrían ofrecer todas sus vidas en el servicio de Cristo.

Soy creyente en el ministerio a los niños pero me anima más ver que niños fueron usados por Dios en la Biblia. Samuel servía en la presencia del Señor siendo niño. Cristo dio de comer a la multitud después de recibir los panes y pescados de un niño. Hay más historias en la Biblia también. Una de las cosas que me ha animado mucho ha sido ver como los niños de nuestra iglesia están con ganas de ministrar. Ya tienen su grupo que hace un show de payasos y títeres y han formado un grupo de alabanza. El grupo está ensayando hace 2 meses. Olvidemos la idea que los niños solo pueden ser ministrados. Oremos para que el Señor levante niños capaces de ministrar. Oremos por los niños de nuestra iglesia, sus compañeros de la escuela y los niños del barrio.

But Samuel ministered before the Lord, even as a child, wearing a linen ephod.[1]

I believe it was D.L. Moody’s wife that asked her husband how many people had received the Lord one day. D.L. responded with some number like 13 ½. (I don’t remember the exact number but I know it had a ½ in it.) His wife was trying to figure out why he had said ½. She thought he meant that the ½ had to do with a child. Moody told her that it was the opposite. The ½ referred to a middle aged man. Moody´s way of thinking was that the middle aged man only had ½ a life to give to the Lord. The children being children yet would be able to offer their entire lives.

I’m a big believer in children’s ministry but I’m even more encouraged when I see that children were used by God in the Bible. Samuel ministered as a child. The fish and loaves were multiplied by the Lord after having been supplied by a boy. There are other examples in the Bible as well. One of the things that has been happening in the church here is that we are seeing the children getting excited about ministry. We have a children’s ministry group that does a clown and puppet show and now there is a children’s worship group being formed. They’ve been practicing for a few months now. Let’s drop the idea that children are only supposed to be ministered to and look to the Lord to raise up children that can minister. Pray for the children in your church today. Pray for your children’s classmates and for the children of your neighborhood.

Los Jóvenes The Young People

“Constantes en la oración…” Romanos 12:12

Dios ha usado tantos jóvenes en el pasado. Pienso en jóvenes como José, Daniel, Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-nego. ¿Te acuerdas de Timoteo? Recuerdo de tantos jóvenes que Dios ha usado en mi vida también. Recuerdo a los jóvenes que han venido en viajes misioneros y los jóvenes de nuestra iglesia que Dios está usando. A Dios le encanta usar a la gente joven. Piensas en algunos jóvenes, siendo creyentes o no creyentes, ora por ellos hoy día. Pídale a Dios por ellos. Pide para que Dios les dé una visión más allá acerca de lo que Dios quiere hacer con sus vidas. Nuestros jóvenes necesitan nuestras oraciones hoy día.

God has used so many young people in the past. I think of young men like Joseph, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Remember Timothy? I remember so many young people that God has used in my life as well. I think of the young people that have come down here on missions trips and the young people that God is using in our church here in Lima. God loves to use young people. Think of a few young people that you know, either believers or non believers and pray for them today. Pray that God would give them a greater vision of what God would do with them. Our young people need our prayers today.

¡Luz, Camera, Acción! Lights, Camera, Action!

Estamos orando mucho para poder producir unos DVD's. Queremos que sean mini peliculas, algunas peliculas evangelísticas y por lo menos una pelicula al estilo Plaza Sésamo para niños. He escrito un guión hasta el momento y Ricardo me está ayudando a mejorarla. Falta terminar el quión para el segundo video evangelistico y el de los niños. Claro que escribir el guión es una sola parte. Tenemos que orar por la parte técnica o producción, la parte financiera, y el apoyo en cuanto a la página web también. Mi deseo es producir estos videos y ponerlos en el internet y dar copias a personas interesadas. Me gustaría dar copias a las personas que viven cerca de la iglesia también.Todo en el tiempo del Señor, pero es algo que he tenido en mi corazón hace tiempo pero no quería mencionar nada al "público" antes. Estoy orando por todo eso.

We´re praying to be able to produce some DVD´s. We want to produce some mini movies that will be evangelistic in nature and at least one that will be like a Christian version of Plaza Sesamo to outreach to the children. I´ve written the script for on video so far and Ricardo is helping me to make it better. I need to finish a second script as well and then work with others regarding the script for the children´s video. Writing the script is only one part of the production of course. We have to pray for the technical side of things, the financial part and help with the web page. My desire is to produce these videos and put them in the internet. I want to give copies to people that live close to the church too. Everything in the Lord´s time but it´s something I´ve had in my heart for quite a while already. I just didn´t want to mention anything to the "public". I´m praying about all this.

La Oración y El Ayuno Prayer and Fasting

Mateo 17:221, “Pero este género no sale sino con oración y ayuno.”

Es muy importante para nosotros como cristianos entender la conexión que existe entre la oración y el ayuno. Estamos hablando de la oración los días jueves aquí en Koinonia Surco. Estoy animando a la gente de la iglesia a tomar tiempo para orar y ayunar. A través de la oración bajamos lo invisible del cielo a nuestras vidas y a nuestro mundo. El ayuno nos ayuda a soltar las cosas visibles, las cosas de este mundo que nos impiden en muchas áreas de nuestras vidas. Agarremos a Dios más este año y soltemos la cosas del mundo más este año también.

Matthew 17:21 “However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

It’s so important for us as Christians to understand the connection that exists between prayer and fasting. We’ve been talking about prayer in our Bible studies on Thursday nights here at Koinonia Surco. I’m encouraging the people in the church to take time to pray and fast. Prayer brings down heavenly blessings into our lives and our world. Fasting allows us to let go of the visible. Let’s take hold of God and let go of the world a little more this year.

Muchisimas gracias a todos los que nos han enviado e-mails diciendo que están orando por nosotros. Gracias por enviar versículos bíblicos para animarnos también. Somos un solo cuerpo y cuando un miembro está dolorido los otros miembros sufren también. Siguen orando por nosotros. Sabemos que Dios es fiel. En estos días he estado muy animado pensando en y orando por unos proyectos que queremos hacer para alcanzar a más peruanos con el evangelio. Vamos a ver lo que Dios hace este año. Sería bueno levantar unas oraciones por la iglesia perseguida también.

Many thanks to all of those of you that have sent e-mails saying that you are praying for us. Thanks for sending Bible verses to encourage us too. We're one body and when one part is hurting the whole body in in pain. Keep praying for us. I know that God is faithful. These days I've been really encouraged, thinking about and praying for some projects that we want to do so that we can reach more peruvians with the gospel. Let's see what God does this year. It would be good to pray for the persecuted church too.

El Señor Ministrando The Lord Ministering

El Señor me ministró mucho con Salmo 130 esta mañana. Pienso que he sido reconfortado y más que todo fortalecido. Gracias a los que han estado orando por mí y el ministerio aquí en Lima. Siguen orando, los ataques del enemigo son reales pero Salmo 130 es la palabra de Dios. Dios nunca falla.

De lo profundo, oh Jehová, a ti clamo.

Señor, oye mi voz; Estén atentos tus oídos

A la voz de mi súplica.

JAH, si mirares a los pecados, ¿Quién, oh Señor, podrá mantenerse?

Pero en ti hay perdón, Para que seas reverenciado.

Esperé yo a Jehová, esperó mi alma;

En su palabra he esperado.

Mi alma espera a Jehová Más que los centinelas a la mañana, Más que los vigilantes a la mañana.

The Lord ministered to me a lot with Psalm 130 this morning. I’ve been comforted and more than anything, I’ve been strengthened. Thanks to all of you that have been praying for me and the ministry here in Lima. Keep praying. Satan’s attacks are real but Psalm 130 is the word of God. God never fails.


Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice!

Let Your ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications.

If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?

But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared.

Mi Casa My House

“mi casa será llamada casa de oración para todos los pueblos.” Isaías 56:7

Son muy pocas veces que he enseñado acerca de un tema en la iglesia. Prefiero enseñar la Biblia libro por libro, versículo por versículo pero los jueves estamos estudiando el tema de la oración. Hay tanta confusión acerca de la oración y quiero aclarar unas cosas importantes pero mi motivo en enseñar no es aclarar doctrina. Quiero ser un hombre de oración. Quiero que nuestra iglesia sea una iglesia de oración. Estoy aprendiendo mucho y espero que los demás puedan decir lo mismo que hayamos terminado. Lo digo así porque podremos aprender más y mas acerca del tema siempre. ¿Cómo te va en cuanto a la oración? No pierdas tiempos preciosos con el Señor por las cosas temporales. El Padre te está esperando en lo secreto.

It’s not very often that I teach a topical study in the church. I prefer teaching the Bible book by book, and chapter by chapter, but we’re studying the topic of prayer on Thursday nights. There is a lot of confusion about prayer in the church and I want to clear some of that up in our own body but my motivation in teaching on prayer isn’t to clear up doctrinal errors. I want to be a man of prayer. I want our church to be a church of prayer. I’m learning a lot and I hope that the others will be able to say the same when we finish. I say it like this because we will always be able to learn something new about prayer. How is your prayer life? Don’t lose time with the Lord because of temporal things. The Father is waiting for you in the secret place.

Escuela de Discipulado Discipleship School

Por tanto, id, y haced discípulos a todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo; enseñándoles que guarden todas las cosas que os he mandado; y he aquí yo estoy con vosotros todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo. Amén. Mateo 28:19-20

Cuando fuimos a Ayacucho en nuestro viaje misionero creo que Dios nos animó mucho en cuanto a algo específico. Orar y planear más para poder comenzar a alcanzar a más peruanos en otras partes del país y edificar a los hermanos en las provincias también. Lo que pensamos hacer es viajar 3-4 cada año, ministrando a la gente. En estos viajes queremos ver como Dios nos usa y conocer a gente nueva. Después de viajar, queremos invitar a un grupo de personas venir a Lima por en periodo de 3 meses. Queremos invitar a la gente de otros países que está interesada en misiones en Sur América, venir y estudiar con nosotros también. En estos tres meses queremos ayudarles a conocer a Dios más y prepararles para lo obra en su Iglesia local. Así queremos abrir la escuela de discipulado a personas de otras iglesias e invitarles a venir y quedarse en el edificio de Surco. Queremos enviarles a otros sitios para poder practicar lo que están aprendiendo también.

Estamos orando para poder comenzar el semestre de la escuela de discipulado para internos en Enero de 2008. Esto implica tener dos profesores más, un lugar para poner una cocina más grande, becas para los estudiantes que tal vez no podrán pagar todos sus gastos, un presupuesto para una cocinera, la luz, el agua, etc. y otras cosas. Oren por eso. Podría ser de gran bendición para el Perú.

God encouraged our church a lot during and after our recent missions’ trip to Ayacucho. He encouraged us about something specific. I believe that He encouraged us to pray for and begin planning to outreach to more Peruvians in other parts of the country building up the brothers that live in the provinces as well. What we are thinking to do is make 3-4 missions trips each year, ministering to the people. During these trips we want to see how God uses us and we want to meet new people. After the trips we want to invite some of the people to come to Lima for a period of three months. We want to invite people to come from other countries as well if they are interested in ministering in South America. During 3 month time we want to help the students to know God better and to prepare them to minister more effectively in their local church. So in other words, we want to open our discipleship school to people from other churches and areas inviting them to stay in the building in Surco and travel with us, putting into practice what they’ve been learning.

We’re praying to be able to start our first semester with live in students in January of 2008. This implies having two more Bible teachers, a place to put a larger kitchen, scholarships for students that can’t pay the tuition, a budget for more electricity, water, etc. and other things. Please pray for this. It could be a big blessing for Peru.

La Moda de Vestir Clothing Fashion

"Entonces fueron abiertos los ojos de ambos, y conocieron que estaban desnudos; entonces cosieron hojas de higuera, y se hicieron delantales." Génesis 3:7

"Y Jehová Dios hizo al hombre y a su mujer túnicas de pieles, y los vistió." Génesis 3:21

Ya iniciamos el año nuevo. Ahora estamos esperando con ganas a ver lo que pasará en el año 2007. Algunas personas, especialmente en lugares como Nueva York y Paris están muy interesadas en ver los estilos de vestir que van a aparecer. ¿Qué harán los diseñadores de ropa de alta moda que asombrará a la gente? En los últimos años nos han mostrado vestidos hechos de chocolate, papel aluminio, plástico y otras cosas nuevas. La ropa ha sido importante para el ser humano desde los tiempos de Adán y Eva. El primer estilo era ropa hecha de hojas higuera. Fue un estilo que no duró, ni un año.

Cuando Adán y Eva pecaron, comenzaron a entender algo que no habían imaginado. Se dieron cuenta que estaban desnudos delante de Dios. Siempre era así pero antes no habían tenido razón por esconderse. Después de pecar entendieron que el problema era más grande que simplemente comer una fruta prohibida. No era un problema superficial sino un problema que cambió su forma de ver a si mismo y cambió su relación con Dios. Entendieron que ellos mismos eran el problema y por eso intentaron taparse y tapar su pecado con hojas de higuera. Estaban avergonzados a ellos mismos y delante de Dios.
Imagínense, la hoja era muy incomoda, picaba a la piel, no era muy durable, se secaba y se encogía, dejando huecos y así destapaba lo que ellos desesperadamente, querían tapar. ¡Que frustrante! ¡Que ineficiente! ¡Que temporal!

Después de ser confrontados por Dios y comprender que tenían que sufrir las consecuencias de su desobediencia, Dios les mostró la misericordia. Ellos merecían la muerte pero Dios sacrificó un animal y así los vistió con la piel de ese animal. Ya no tenían que vivir avergonzados. Su vergüenza estaba tapada.

Gracias a Dios, nosotros como pecadores, como cristianos nacidos de nuevo hemos recibido el beneficio de un sacrificio. No es el sacrificio de un animal. La ropa que Dios hizo para Adán y Eva se gastaba también. El sacrificio que Dios nos ha dado en Su Hijo Jesucristo nos ha provisto algo que nos tapa completamente y dura para la vida eterna. Es tan bueno que nos quita la culpabilidad y la vergüenza por completa.

La próxima vez que peco, intentaré recordar de no coser una ropa hecha de hojas de higuera que hablan de mis propios esfuerzos. Voy a recordar que Dios me ha hecho una vestimenta. Él me ha dado, atravez de su sacrificio en la cruz algo que me perdona, me renueva y me quita la vergüenza. Gracias Señor Jesús. Tu sacrifico es durable y en el caso de nosotros como Cristianos, nunca dejará de estar de moda.

“Porque si la sangre de los toros y de los machos cabríos, y las cenizas de la becerra rociadas a los inmundos, santifican para la purificación de la carne, ¿cuánto más la sangre de Cristo, el cual mediante el Espíritu eterno se ofreció a sí mismo sin mancha a Dios, limpiará vuestras conciencias de obras muertas para que sirváis al Dios vivo? Así que, por eso es mediador de un nuevo pacto, para que interviniendo muerte para la remisión de las transgresiones que había bajo el primer pacto, los llamados reciban la promesa de la herencia eterna.” Hebreos 9:13-15

Here we are in 2007. We’re anxiously waiting to see what will happen this year. Some people, especially in places like New York and Paris are anxious to see what the new clothing styles will be. What will the designers produce this year that will get the people talking? Some of the newer designs the last few years have been clothing made from things like chocolate, aluminum foil and plastic. Clothing has been important to us since the time of Adam and Eve. The first clothing style had to do with fig leaves. That style didn’t even last one year.

When Adam and Eve sinned, they began to understand something new that they had never even imagined before. They were naked before God and each other. They had always been naked but before sinning, they had nothing to hide. They realized that their problem was much bigger than just eating a piece of forbidden fruit. Even though they tried to cover themselves with fig leaves, they realized that their problem wasn’t just skin deep. They themselves were the problem. Their very being was shameful before God and their problem affected their relationship with God and with each other. Trying to cover up their problem with fig leaves wasn’t a good answer.

Can you imagine what it would be like to wear fig leaves? The leaf was uncomfortable. It made them itchy. It didn’t last long. The leaves would dry up and shrink. Some of them would fall leaving big holes in the areas that they so desperately wanted to cover. How frustrating! How inefficient! How temporary!

After being confronted by God and realizing that they would have to face the consequences of their sin, God showed them mercy. They deserved to die right then and there but God sacrificed an animal and clothed them with its skin. They didn’t have to be ashamed anymore. Their shame was covered up.

Thanks to God that we, as sinners that have been born again have benefited from the sacrifice that Jesus made for us on the cross. Even the tunics that God made for Adam and Eva wore out eventually but Jesus sacrifice will last for all eternity. It covers us completely and not only covers us; it even forgives us and takes away our guilt and shame.

The next time I sin I’m going to try and remember not to cover myself with fig leaves, (my own efforts). I’m going to thank God for His sacrifice that provides me the clothing I need. For us as Christians, His sacrifice will never wear out and will never be out of style.

For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. Hebrews 9:13-15

La Palabra Escrita, El Buen Sazón... The Written Word... Good Flavor...

Esta mañana estoy pensando en los blogs, predicando el evangelio y utilizando lo que tenemos para alcanzar a otros y glorificar a Dios en otras palabras, tengo un montón de cosas en la mente. No sé que es lo que nos espera en 2007 pero si, sé que quiero utilizar lo que Dios me ha dado. Quiero estar atento a la voz de Dios. Quiero hacer una diferencia en el mundo. La mayoría de ustedes no son pastores pero creo que piensan igual que yo. Esta mañana estoy orando por el cuerpo de Cristo y por muchos de ustedes por nombre.

Todos ustedes tienen dones y talentos que pueden ser utilizados para glorificar a Dios y edificar a su cuerpo. Uno de los dones que no se usa mucho en el cuerpo de Cristo al nivel local es la capacidad de escribir. La palabra escrita usada en un periódico, revista, libro o folleto es una herramienta poderosa. No tienes que ser un escritor profesional para poder ser usado por Dios. Cuando pensamos en el Nuevo Testamento vemos como Dios usa a autores que no son profesionales. Lucas fue médico pero escribió su evangelio y el libro de Hechos porque quería que un amigo tuviera a la mano los hechos acerca de Jesús y la iglesia primitiva. ¡Imagínate, Lucas no sabía que estaba escribiendo la Biblia! Lucas solo quería compartir algo importante con un amigo. Pedro fue pescador. No fue escritor. Dios puede usar lo que tu escribes.

Quiero animarles a considerar escribir algo este año que podría ser compartido con otra gente. Podría ser algo como escribir un testimonio e imprimirlo como folleto. Podría ser un artículo escrito para animar a la gente de la iglesia. Podrían ponerlo en el blog de la iglesia o incluirlo en el boletín de tu iglesia. Tal vez podrías hacer tu propio blog este año. Lo importante es escribir algo acerca de lo que Dios te ha enseñado. Anais Nin dijo, “escribimos para poder saborear la vida dos veces.” Es verdad. ¿Qué es lo que estás cocinando? Hay que compartirlo con nosotros. ¡Queremos disfrutar de tu sazón! Queremos pasar tiempo en la cocina contigo.

This morning I’m thinking about blogging, preaching the gospel and using what God has given us to reach others and glorify God. In other words, I have a lot of things going on inside me head. I don’t know what 2007 has in store for us but I do know that I want to use what God has given me. I want to be attentive to His voice. I want to make a difference in this world. Most of you aren’t pastors but most of you feel the same way I do. You want to be used of the Lord. This morning I’m praying for the body of Christ and for many of you by name.

All of you have gifts and talents that you could use to glorify God and edify the body. One of the gifts that is so seldom used in the body of Christ on a local level is that of being able to write. The written word, whether it’s utilized in a newspaper, magazine, book or Bible tract, is a powerful tool. You don’t have to be a professional writer to be used of God. When we think of the New Testament it’s easy to see how God uses writers that aren’t professionals. Luke was a doctor but wrote his gospel and the book of Acts because he wanted a friend to have the facts about Jesus and the early church. Imagine that. Luke didn’t know he was writing the Bible. He just wanted to share with a friend! Peter was a fisherman. He wasn’t a writer. God could use something that you write!

I want to encourage you to consider writing something this year that could be shared with others. It could be something like writing out your testimony and printing it up as a tract. It could be writing an article to encourage the church. Maybe it could be posted on your church blog or placed in the church bulletin. Maybe some of you will consider blogging. The important thing is to take a little time to write something about what God has shown you. Anais Nin said, “We write to taste life twice.” That is so true. What’s cooking? Share it with us. We want to spend some time in your kitchen with you.

No hay lugar There's No Room

Y dio a luz a su hijo primogénito, y lo envolvió en pañales, y lo acostó en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón. Lucas 2:7

El domingo celebramos la navidad en la iglesia. No llegó mucha gente. He visto que todos los años es igual. Tengo que confesar que me pone un poco triste ver que muchos de los cristianos aquí no llegan a la iglesia en una fecha tan importante. Estaba conversando con Betty acerca del tema. Algunos dicen que no muchos llegan a la iglesia porque es un día familiar aquí pero no creo que sea así porque he visto que las iglesias católicas están tan llenas hasta que ya no hay lugar. Sé que Cristo no nació el 25 de Diciembre pero me quedo con una pregunta. Si no estamos celebrando el nacimiento de nuestro Señor en la navidad, ¿Qué es lo que celebramos como cristianos? Bueno, tenemos alta chamba aquí en El Perú todavía. Espero que los cristianos logren encontrar un lugar para Cristo en la navidad el año que viene.

We celebrated Christmas in the church this past Sunday. Not very many people came. I've noticed that it's the same every year. I have to confess that it gets me a little sad seeing that not many christians here make it to church on a day that is so important. I was talking with Betty about it. She mentioned that a lot of people said that the christians don't go to church because they view Christmas as more of a family day. I don't know if I agree with that evaluation because when I go past the Catholic churches I see that they are so full that there's no room. I know that Christ wasn't born on the 25th of December but I still have a question. If we as Christians don't celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas, what are we celebrating? Well, we still have a lot of work to do here in Peru. I hope that next year the Christians will find room for Jesus in Christmas.
