El Pródigo The Prodigal

“But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him” - Luke 15:20

What a blessing it was for the prodigal that he did not meet his elder brother before his father! Had the two, by any sad mischance, met face to face in the field, it is certain that the ragged wanderer would never have gone another step. His brother would have upbraided him with leaving home, and wasting his patrimony, and coming back in so disgraceful a state. Assuredly he would not have killed the fatted calf; but he would have killed all hope in that sad and sinstained soul.

With one farewell glance at the dear old home, the penitent would have turned back to the far-country and the swine. Those upbraidings would have broken the bruised reed, and quenched the smoking flax in densest midnight.

But mercifully the prodigal first met his father, whose heart had never ceased to yearn for him, and whose eye strove against the blinding touch of grief and years, that it might still scan the road along which that prodigal child had gone. Was there upbraiding in his look or tone? Never! Was there upbraiding mingled with the first glad notes of welcome? Not a trace! Not a word about the long absence, the wild and evil life! If the son had had his way, he would have carried his confession to the end, and chosen for himself the servant’s lot; but even in that he was stopped, and silenced with the warm rush of his father’s love. “He gave liberally, and upbraided not.”

This is a true picture of God. He gives, and gives again. He gives tears and blood. He gives His darling and His All.

El Señor Da Reposo En Medio de la Pérdida de Consolaciones Internas. Quietness amid the loss of inward consolations.

Quietness amid the loss of inward consolations.

He sometimes withdraws these, because we make to much of them. We are tempted to look at our joy, our ecstasies, our transports, or our visions, with too great complacency. Then love, for love’s sake, withdraws them. But, by his grace, He leads us to distinguish between them and Himself. He draws nigh, and whispers the assurance of his presence. Thus an infinite calm comes to keep our heart and mind. “He gives quietness.”

El Señor da Reposo en Medio de la Tormenta. He Gives Quietness in the Middle of the Storm.

El Señor da Reposo en Medio de la Tormenta.

Si él diere reposo, ¿quién inquietará?... Job 34:29

Calla, enmudece… ¿No lo puedes escuchar? Y al instante hay una gran paz. El Señor nos da reposo.

“He gives quietness…” Job 34: 29

He Gives Quietness in the Middle of the Storm.

We sail the lake with Him still, and as we reach its middle waters, far from land, under midnight skies, suddenly a great storm sweeps down. Earth and hell seem arrayed against us, and each billow threatens to overwhelm. Then He arises from his sleep, and rebukes the winds and the waves; his hand waves benediction and repose over the rage of the tempestuous elements.
His voice is heard above the scream of the wind in the cordage and the conflict of the billows. Peace, be still! Can you not hear it? And there is instantly a great calm. “He gives quietness.”

El Señor Nos Da Reposo Cuando Satanás Ataca. The Lord Gives Quietness When Satan Attacks

Si él diere reposo, ¿quién inquietará?... Job 34:29

Con amor eterno he amado. He pagado el precio de rescate.” El Señor da reposo.

“He gives quietness…” Job 34: 29

The great accuser points to the stains of our past lives, by which we have defiled our robes and those of others; he says that we shall fall again and again; he imputes evil motives to our holiest actions, and detects flaws in our most sacred services; he raises so great a hubbub that we can hardly hear another voice within our souls.
Then the great Intercessor arises and says, “The Lord rebuke thee, 0 Satan; the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: I have loved with an everlasting love, I have paid the ransom. So “He giveth quietness.”
