A Hard Question

"Are you the Messiah we've been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?" Jesus told them, "Go back to John and tell him what you have heard and seen—the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor. And tell him, 'God blesses those who do not turn away because of me.'" Matthew 11:3-6

Jesus failed to meet the expectations of everyone who came close to him. His mother, Mary, became convinced at one point that He was, “out of His mind.” (Mk. 3:21) Again and again His own disciples were scandalized by what He said and did. (see especially John 6:60) If there should have one person who was not offended by Jesus, it was John the Baptist. He had recognized the dignity of Jesus when he was still in his mother's womb! (Lk. 1:44) He had heard the voice of God declare, "This is my beloved Son..." (Mk. 1:11) But now John finds himself in prison, not for doing something wrong, but for having the courage to speak out against Herod's adulterous relationship with his brother's wife. From his point of view, John seems to think Jesus has let him down; that perhaps Jesus is not the person John thought He was. And so from prison comes the most remarkable question in the New Testament. From the mouth of the one who had proclaimed, "Behold the Lamb of God..." comes the question, "Are you the Messiah, or should we look for someone else?"

If John could be offended, anyone could be. And the truth is, everyone who comes close to Jesus will be, not because there is anything wrong with Jesus, but because our expectations are patently wrong about who He is and what He means.

Pensando en Hechos 1:11 Thinking about Acts 1:11

Carlos Spurgeon

"This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven..." Acts 1:11

Jesus has gone into heaven. Jesus is gone! Jesus is gone! It sounds like a knell. Jesus is taken up from you into heaven!—that sounds like a marriage peal. He is gone, but he is gone up to the hills whence he can survey the battle; up to the throne, from which he can send us succour. The reserve forces of the omnipotent stood waiting till their Captain came, and now that he is come into the centre of the universe, he can send legions of angels, or he can raise up hosts of men for the help of his cause. I see every reason for going down into the world and getting to work, for he is gone up into heaven and "all power is given unto him in heaven and in earth." Is not that a good argument—"Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost"?

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.[1] 1 John 1:7

I was walking in the street today when I saw two brothers walking together. It was so easy to see that they were brothers because they walked exactly the same. It made me remember our church verse.

Este Mismo Jesus This Same Jesus

Este mismo Jesús. Hechos 1:11

“Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11

"This same Jesus." Why, that must have meant that he who is in heaven is the same Christ who was on earth, but it must also mean that he who is to come will be the same Jesus that went up into heaven. There is no change in our blessed Master's nature, nor will there ever be. There is a great change in his condition:—

"The Lord shall come, but not the sameAs once in lowliness he came, humble man before his foes,A weary man, and full of woes."
He will be "the same Jesus" in nature though not in condition: he will possess the same tenderness when he comes to judge, the same gentleness of heart when all the glories of heaven and earth shall gird his brow. Our eye shall see him in that day, and we shall recognize him not only by the nail-prints, but by the very look of his countenance, by the character that gleams from that marvellous face; and we shall say, "'Tis he! 'tis he! the self-same Christ that went up from the top of Olivet from the midst of his disciples." Go to him with your troubles, as you would have done when he was here. Look forward to his second coming without dread. Look for him with that joyous expectancy with which you would welcome Jesus of Bethany, who loved Mary, and Martha, and Lazarus.

Hechos 1 Acts 1

Carlos Spurgeon

“Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11

As surely as he did hang upon the cross, so surely does he, the self-same man, sit upon the throne of God and reign over creation. I like to think of the positive identity of the Christ in the seventh heaven with the Christ in the lowest deeps of agony. The Christ they spat upon is now the Christ whose name the cherubim and seraphim are hymning day without night. The Christ they scourged is he before whom principalities and powers delight to cast their crowns.

Think of it and be glad this morning; and do not stand gazing up into heaven after a myth or a dream. Jesus lives; mind that you live also. Do not loiter as if you had nothing at all to do, or as if the kingdom of God had come to an end because Jesus is gone from the earth, as to his bodily presence. It is not all over; he still lives, and he has given you a work to do till he comes. Therefore, go and do it.

Pan Bread

¿Has entregado tu pan al Señor hoy día?

I taught Judges chapters 4 and 5. The team is in Puente Piedra ministering right now and will be returning at about 6:30.

At 7:00 p.m. we’ll be studying Acts 1:8. We’re going to talk about missions and the importance of being part of a team. We should be either be sending missionaries or being sent as missionaries. As far as I see it we really don’t have a choice if we’re going to be disciples of Jesus Christ. Maybe we don’t have a lot to offer but we can offer something. How many times we think, “I have so little it really won’t make a difference.” When we think that way we lose the blessing of participating. The opposite is true. It’s so great to see how God can use the little that we offer for His glory. One day when we get to heaven, maybe we’ll be able to ask the guy that, when he was a boy offered his bread and fish to Jesus to share his story with us. He’ll tell us how Jesus changed a few small breads and fish into food for 5,000. Have you given your bread to the Lord today?

Emocionado Excited

It’s 7:22 a.m. and I’m excited. I can’t wait to see what the Lord’s going to do today. I’m very happy because we’re going to have two meetings today for the second time. We have a meeting at 10:00 a.m. and another meeting at 7:00 p.m. It’s great to see how our Bible study in Judges in the morning has a lot to do with our study in Acts in the night. God is speaking to us as a church. The only thing we have to do is respond in faith.

Mucha Paz A Lot of Peace

Carlos Spurgeon

Great peace have they which love Thy Law: and nothing shall offend them” (Psalm 119:165)

Yes, a true love for the great Book will bring us great peace from the great God and be a great protection to us. Let us live constantly in the society of the law of the LORD, and it will breed in our hearts a restfulness such as nothing else can. The Holy Spirit acts as a Comforter through the Word and sheds abroad those benign influences which calm the tempests of the soul.

Nothing is a stumbling block to the man who has the Word of God dwelling in him richly. He takes up his daily cross, and it becomes a delight. For the fiery trial he is prepared and counts it not strange, so as to be utterly cast down by it.

He is neither stumbled by prosperity — as so many are — nor crushed by adversity — as others have been — for he lives beyond the changing circumstances of external life.
When his LORD puts before him some great mystery of the faith which makes others cry, “This is an hard saying; who can hear it?” the believer accepts it without question; for his intellectual difficulties are overcome by his reverent awe of the law of the LORD, which is to him the supreme authority to which he joyfully bows. LORD, work in us this love, this peace, this rest, this day.

La Humildad Humility

Se humilló a sí mismo
Filipenses 2:8

Carlos Spurgeon

“He humbled Himself.” -Philippians 2:8

Jesus is the great teacher of lowliness of heart. We need to learn from Him daily. See the Master taking a towel and washing His disciples’ feet! Follower of Christ, will you not humble yourself? See Him as the Servant of servants, and surely you can not be proud!

“He humbled Himself” Is not this sentence the theme of His biography? Was He not on earth always stripping off first one robe of honor and then another, till, naked, He was fastened to the cross, and there did He not empty out His inmost self, pouring out His life-blood, giving up for all of us, till they laid Him penniless in a borrowed grave? How low was our dear Redeemer brought! How then can we be proud?

Stand at the foot of the cross, and count the purple drops by which you have been cleansed; see the thorn-crown; mark His scourged shoulders, see hands and feet given up to the rough iron, and His whole self to mockery and scorn; see the bitterness, and the pangs, and the throes of inward grief, showing themselves in His outward frame; hear the thrilling shriek, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?” And if you do not lie face down on the ground before that cross, you have never seen it: if you are not humbled in the presence of Jesus, you do not know Him.

You were so lost that nothing could save you but the sacrifice of God’s only begotten. Think of that, and as Jesus stooped for you, bow yourself in lowliness at His feet. A sense of Christ’s amazing love to us has a greater tendency to humble us than even a consciousness of our own guilt. May the Lord bring us in contemplation to Calvary, then our position will no longer be that of the pompous man of pride, but we shall take the humble place of one who loves much because much has been forgiven him. Pride cannot live beneath the cross. Let us sit there and learn our lesson, and then rise and carry it into practice.

El Olfato Malo A Bad Sense of Smell

Me pasó algo raro ayer.

Something strange happened to me yesterday. Well, it’s something strange for me even though it’s quite common for most people. I was walking in a park that has a lot of flowers and I could smell them. My problem is that I suffer from a lot of allergies and rhinitis. Because of these problems it’s been several years since I was able to smell the flowers in the park. While I was walking I was thinking about the fact that it’s the same way with our relationship with the Lord. Even though He’s always present there are a lot of people that don’t know it because they suffer from a “sickness” called sin. The fact that the people can’t appreciate our God doesn’t mean in the least bit that He doesn’t exist or that He’s not present.

Sin Cambio Without Change

Carlos Spurgeon

An unchanged life is the sign of an unchanged heart. Charles Spurgeon.

Mis pensamientos-Una Oración My Thoughts-A Prayer

After a weekend of a lot of activity and a day of rest (Monday), here I am working again. It´s 4:09 in the morning and I´ve just returned from the clinic. My wife wasn´t feeling too well. She was having really bad stomach pains. She´s doing better now though. It doesn´t make sense to go to bed because my children start their classes at 6:00 a.m. and I´m their teacher for the first classes.

We began to have two church meetings on Sunday here in Surco in addition to the Bible study in Santa Rosa de Villa Carabayllo. I really liked the Sunday night meeting. I love small group Bible studies (a few less than the 2 million people that we expected showed up). We´re studying the book of Acts. The morning meeting was good too and the ministry in Santa Rosa de Villa was good too, thanks to the Lord.

Pray for us please. We need a lot of wisdom. Pray for the pastors and leaders of the churches.

Sometimes I get sad when I think about what is happening in the Christian church today. There is a lot of activity and many churches are growing in numbers but sometimes I wonder, "How many people really fear God?"

Many churches have an "anything goes" attitude and they do everything in the name of "grace." I´m not just talking about denominational churches. I´m talking about Calvary Chapel churches. Jesus prophesied in Matthew 24 saying, "And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved." This is what we´re seeing today. Again, I´m not talking about the people of the world. I´m talking about what is happening in our churches.

All of this really makes me think about what we´re studying on Sunday mornings. One of the key verses of Judges is 22:25, "In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes." It looks to me like history is repeating itself in our time. The saddest thing is that Judges 2:11 says, "Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served the Baals;" So we see that the people of God did what they thought was good according to their opinion but they didn´t seek to obey the word of the Lord.

This is something that´s very subtle when it comes to the church. Supposedly, we´re seeking the will of God. Supposedly we´re serving the Lord. That´s why we fellowship together. The problem is when we do all of this according to our way of thinking. We watch the church grow in numbers and we think that is the proof that God is blessing our ministries. Brothers, if that was true then the most blessed "churches" in our time have been the Muslems, the Jehcvah´s Witnesses and the Mormons! This would mean that Jesus earthly ministry was a failure. At the end all of the men abandoned Him and He ended up with just a few women and no one else!

In our time many Christians do what ever they think seems good to them and what they do isn´t according to the word of God. Brothers in Christ, we really need a revival in our churches. Lord, forgive us for wanting to increase the number of people that attend the church and participate in the ministries without worrying about keeping your word and seeking your holiness! We´re wrong. We no longer have the influence in the world that we should have because we´re contaminated. Cleans us and change us. The saddest part is that we think we´re doing just fine. Thanks Lord, for the people that follow you faithfully and really seek your kingdom and your righteousness in the church.

El Varón Perfecto The Perfect Man

F.B. Meyer

A perfect and an upright man.” Job 2:3

Even God spoke of Job as perfect. Not that he was absolutely so, as judged by the perfect standard of eternity, but as judged by the standard of his own light and knowledge.
He was living up to all the requirements of God and man, so far as he understood them. His whole being was open and obedient to the Divine impulses. So far as he knew there was no cause of controversy in heart or life.
Probably he could have adopted the words of the Apostle, “I know nothing against myself.” He exercised himself to have always a conscience void of offence toward God and man.
Satan suggested that his goodness was pure selfishness; that it paid him well to be as he was, because God had hedged him around and blessed his substance. This malignant suggestion was at once dealt with by the Almighty Vindicator of the saints.
It was as if God said, “I give thee permission to deprive him of all those favouring conditions, for the sake of which thou sayest he is bribed to goodness; and it shall be seen that his integrity is rooted deep down in the work of my grace upon his heart.”
But the book goes on to show that God desired to teach Job that there were flaws and blemishes in his character which could only be seen by comparing it with the more perfect glory of his own Divine nature. His friends sought to prove him faulty, and failed; God revealed himself, and he cried, “Behold, I am vile, and abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”
How often God takes away our consolations, that we may only love Him for Himself; and reveals our sinfulness, that we may better appreciate the completeness of his salvation!

“There is corn in Egypt.”– Genesis 42:2

Famine pinched all the nations, and it seemed inevitable that Jacob and his family should suffer great want; but the God of providence, who never forgets the objects of electing love, had stored a granary for His people by giving the Egyptians warning of the scarcity, and leading them to treasure up the grain of the years of plenty. Little did Jacob expect deliverance from Egypt, but there was the corn in store for him.
Believer, though all things are apparently against you, rest assured that God has made a reservation on your behalf; in the roll of your griefs there is a saving clause. Somehow He will deliver you, and somewhere He will provide for you. The quarter from which your rescue shall arise may be a very unexpected one, but help will assuredly come in your extremity, and you shall magnify the name of the Lord.
If men do not feed you, ravens shall; and if earth yield not wheat, heaven shall drop with manna. Therefore be of good courage, and rest quietly in the Lord. God can make the sun rise in the west if He pleases, and make the source of distress the channel of delight. The corn in Egypt was all in the hands of the beloved Joseph; he opened or closed the granaries at will. And so the riches of providence are all in the absolute power of our Lord Jesus, who will dispense them liberally to His people.
Joseph was abundantly ready to relieve his own family; and Jesus is unceasing in His faithful care for His brethren. Our business is to go after the help which is provided for us: we must not sit still in despondency. Prayer will bear us soon into the presence of our Jesus, our royal Brother: once before His throne we have only to ask and have. His stores are not exhausted; there is corn still: His heart is not hard, He will give the corn to us.

Job

¿Enseñará alguien a Dios sabiduría?
Job 21:22

No presume a mandarle a Él.

F.B. Meyer

“Shall any teach God knowledge?” - Job 21: 22

We cannot tell God anything He does not know already. The most fervent and full of our prayers simply unfold in word all that has been patent to his loving, pitying eye.

This does not make prayer needless; on the contrary, it incites to prayer, since it is pleasant to talk with one who knows the whole case perfectly; and it is a relief to feel that God’s answers depend not on the information we bring Him, or even on the specific requests we make, but on his infinite and perfect acquaintance with circumstances and conditions of which we are altogether ignorant.

“Your Father knows.” Quicker than lightning is his notice of every transition in your inner life of your downsittings and your uprisings; of every thought in your heart, every word on your tongue, of the fretting of that inward cross, of the anguish of that stake in your flesh, of the enemy that, like a sword in your bones, reproaches you with the derisive challenge.

“You comprehend my path and my lying down,And are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.” (Psalm 139:3-4) Yes, He knows it all, and loves you better than you know.

Do not presume to dictate to Him. Do not dare to say that some other way would be better, some other lot more likely to develop your best self. He knows every track by which to bring sons to glory, and that He has chosen this one is a positive proof that it is the best, the one most adapted to your idiosyncrasies and needs.

His ways are, higher than your ways, and his thoughts than your thoughts. You could not teach Him knowledge, or increase his love, and so trust both.

Alvaro

By the way... Alvaro is advising all of the traffic cops this week. He was worried that we wouldn´t do a good job letting everyone know about the extra meeting on Sundays. There´s going to be a lot of traffic for the event so come early so you don´t miss anything. Thanks Alvaro for working so hard. We love you alot.

The new meeting starts a 7:00p.m. Sundays. We´ll be studying the book of Acts

Personalmente Personally

Brian

These last few days I have really enjoyed what G.D. Watson wrote but I have to confess that sometimes his words have been painful too. They have shown me how much I’m still lacking in my relationship with my beloved. Pray for me because after 30 years of being a Christian I feel more a sinner today than I have ever felt. I want God to continue to do His work in me today.

G.D. Watson

A Tender Heart

Without tenderness of spirit the most intensely righteous, religious life is like the image of God without His beauty and attractiveness. It is possible to be very religious, and firm, and persevering in all Christian duties, even to be sanctified, and be a brave defender and preacher of holiness, to be mathematically orthodox, and blameless in outward life, and very zealous in good works, and yet to be greatly lacking in tenderness of spirit, that all-subduing, all melting love, which streamed out from the eyes and voice of Jesus.
Many Christians seem loaded with good fruits, but the fruit tastes green; it lacks flavor and mellowness. There is a touch of vinegar in their sanctity. Their very purity has an icy coldness to it. Their testimonies are straight and definite, but they lack the melting quality. Their prayers are intelligent and strong and pointed, but they lack the heart-piercing pity of the dying Jesus. The summer heat in them is lacking. They preach eloquently and explain with utmost nicety what is actual and original sin and what is pardon and purity, but they lack the burning flame, that interior furnace of throbbing love, that sighs and weeps and breaks down under the shivering heat of all-consuming love.
Tenderness of spirit makes its home in the bosom of Jesus. It feels all things from God’s standpoint, and lives to receive and transmit the spotless sympathies and affections of Jesus. It understands the words of the Holy Spirit, “Be ye tender hearted, forgiving one another.” Tenderness must be in the very nature, and forgiveness is but the behavior of that nature.

G.D. Watson

G.D. Watson

If God has called you to be really like Jesus, He will draw you into a life of crucifixion and humility, and put upon you such demands of obedience, that you will not be able to measure yourself by other Christians; and in many ways He will seem to let other good people do things which He will never let you do.

Other Christians and ministers, who seem very religious and useful, can push themselves, pull wires and work schemes to carry out their Christian goals, but these things you simply cannot do.
Others may boast of their writings or their success, but the Holy Spirit will not allow you to do any such thing, and if you ever try it, He will lead you into some deep mortification that will make you despise yourself and all of your good works.

Others may be allowed to succeed in making money, but most likely God will keep you poor, because He wants you to have something far better than gold, namely, a helpless dependence on Him and the joy of seeing Him supply your need day by day out of an unseen treasury.

The Lord may let others be honored and keep you hidden and unappreciated because He wants to produce some choice, fragrant fruit for His coming glory, which can only produce in the shade. He may let others do a work for Him and get the credit for it, but He will make you work on and on without knowing how much you are doing, and then, to make your work still more precious, He may let others get the credit for the work which you have done, and thus make your reward ten times greater when Jesus comes.
The Holy Spirit will rebuke you for little words or deeds or even feelings, or for wasting your time, which other Christians never seem to be concerned about, but you must make up your mind that God is an infinite Sovereign and He has a right to do whatever He pleases with His own. He may not explain to you a thousand things which puzzle your reason in the way He deals with you, but if you will just submit yourself to Him in all things, He will wrap you up in a jealous love and bestow upon you many blessings which come only to those who are very near to His heart.

Settle it, then, that He is to have the privilege of trying your tongue, or chaining your hand, or closing your eyes, in ways that He does not seem to use with others. Now, when you are so possessed with the living God that your secret heart becomes pleased and delighted with this peculiar, personal, private, jealous guardianship and management of the Holy Spirit over your life, then you will have entered the very vestibule of heaven itself.

You Can't Do It No Lo Puedes Hacer

Joshua 24:19-20
But Joshua said to the people, “You cannot serve the Lord, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. “If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then He will turn and do you harm and consume you, after He has done you good.”
[1]

The meaning is, God's service is not, as you seem to fancy, a slight and easy thing, but it is a work of great difficulty, and requires great care, and courage and resolution; and when I consider the infinite purity of God, that he will not be mocked or abused; and withal your proneness to superstition and idolatry, even during the life of Moses, and in some of you, while I live, and while the obligations which God had laid upon you in this land, are fresh in remembrance; I cannot but fear that after my decease you will think the service of God burdensome, and therefore will cast it off and revolt from him, if you do not carefully avoid all occasions of idolatry.

Me animaste.

Pastor Chuck

When I saw this picture I remembered Pastor Chuck. No, Pastor Chuck and these girls don’t look alike at all. The picture made me remember what he said, “Blessed are the flexible for they will not be broken.”

Subió a Una Colina He Went Up the Mountain

Amen.”

A.W. Tozer

And Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples. –John 6:3

Just prior to this miraculous multiplying of the bread and fish, Jesus “went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples”(6:3). That fact is noteworthy. It seems plain that Jesus withdrew purposely from the great press of people who had been pursuing Him.
There are some things that you and I will never learn when others are present. I believe in church and I love the fellowship of the assembly. There is much we can learn when we come together on Sundays and sit among the saints. But there are certain things that you and I will never learn in the presence of other people.

Unquestionably, part of our failure today is religious activity that is not preceded by aloneness, by inactivity. I mean getting alone with God and waiting in silence and quietness until we are charged with God’s Spirit. Then, when we act, our activity really amounts to something because we have been prepared by God for it….

Now, in the case of our Lord, the people came to Him, John reports, and He was ready for them. He had been quiet and silent. He had sat alone with His disciples and meditated. Looking upward, He waited until the whole hiatus of divine life moved down from the throne of God into His own soul. He was a violin tuned. He was a battery recharged. He was poised and prepared for the people when they came.

“Lord, I’ll spend a lot of time in the company of people today, but just now I come in quietness and silence to wait for You to fill me. Amen.”

Estudio Bíblico Nuevo los Domingos New Bible Study on Sundays

Sunday the 17th of September we will be starting a new Bible study at 7:00 p.m. God willing we´ll be studying together every Sunday. We´ll be studying the Acts of the Apostles to start with. These days we´re busy coordinating with the Peruvian National Police, the security from Surco and San Juan and all of the bus drivers here in Lima so that everyone will be able to get to the Bible study without any problems. Having said all that, we are expecting between 2-3 million people (maybe a few less) for the first study. I recommend that you get here early so that you can get a seat down front.

Seriously... you don´t want to miss out. Come on out!

Yo Estaré Contigo I'll Be With You

Carlos Spurgeon.

“And he said, Certainly I will be with thee.” (Exodus 3:12)

Of course, if the Lord sent Moses on an errand, He would not let him go alone. The tremendous risk which it would involve and the great power it would require would render it ridiculous for God to send a poor lone Hebrew to confront the mightiest king in all the world and then leave him to himself.
It could not be imagined that a wise God would match poor Moses with Pharaoh and the enormous forces of Egypt. Hence He says, “Certainly I will be with thee,” as if it were out of the question that He would send him alone.
In my case, also, the same rule will hold good. If I go upon the Lord’s errand with a simple reliance upon His power and a single eye to His glory, it is certain that He will be with me. His sending me binds Him to back me up. Is not this enough? What more can I want? If all the angels and arch-angels were with me. I might fail; but if He is with me, I must succeed.
Only let me take care that I act worthily toward this promise. Let me not go timidly, halfheartedly, carelessly, presumptuously. What manner of person ought he to be who has God with him! In such company it behooves me to play the man and, like Moses, go in unto Pharaoh without fear.

El Gran Salto The Big Jump

I know that this image doesn´t have anything to do with the church but it´s good to laugh sometimes. Have an awesome day!

La Clínica The Clinic

I went to the clinic last night because I was suffering from severe stomach pain. They put me in the same room where the put my friend Sergio not long ago. He died in the same clinic that I went to last night. Well, here I am writing in the blog this morning so you'll have to put up with me a while longer!

Juan 4:34

“Jesus said to them, ‘My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.’” - John 4:34

The most unhappy people in the world are the ones who live only for themselves. All that they do, they do only for their own sake. For these self- centered individuals, the most precious things in the world is their “self.” Like a cancer that eats and destroys its own cells, the self-centered individual is slowly dying inwardly.
Sometimes these self-centered individuals mask their concern for their own physical and mental welfare by insisting that it is for “their family.” They are blinded by the pleasures and comforts of this world, and seek only to gratify themselves as they hoard luxuries within their households. Blinded to the truth of eternity, they cannot see either their own true needs or the needs of the multitudes around them.
Sometimes, out of guilt, they will “do something good.” But when they do, it is with one eye toward the glory that will come to their name, and the praise, influence and power that will hopefully follow. And if these glories do not follow, the self-centered “do-gooder” then becomes insolent, upset and unhappy. Bitterness replaces joy, because while the deeds were good, the inner motive was corrupt.
But what a change when we come to the place in our life when we put Jesus in the center–when we can honestly say, “Lord, for thy sake I am glad to do all that pleases you.” Our priority must not be our own joy and happiness, but God’s will, His name, His cause. Doing anything we do for His sake makes all the difference in the world. Then, without seeking it, the joy and happiness follow.
It is well to ask ourselves, “Why am I doing what I do. And why am I not doing some things I know need to be done? Why is there no joy in my heart and I feel empty, even doing good?” The answer could very well be this: our good works are no longer being done for His sake, but for our own pleasure. It is possible, as someone suggested, to be serving the house of God and to have forgotten the Lord who is Master of the house. “For me to live is Christ,” wrote the Apostle Paul. He said he did all things; “For Thy Sake.” May we this day–and always–live to do all things for His

Mateo 26:46

Oswald Chambers

“Rise, let us be going.” Matthew 26:46

The disciples went to sleep when they should have kept awake, and when they realized what they had done it produced despair. The sense of the irreparable is apt to make us despair, and we say - “It is all up now, it is no use trying any more.” If we imagine that this kind of despair is exceptional, we are mistaken, it is a very ordinary human experience.

Whenever we realize that we have not done that which we had a magnificent opportunity of doing, then we are apt to sink into despair; and Jesus Christ comes and says - “Sleep on now, that opportunity is lost for ever, you cannot alter it, but arise and go to the next thing.” Let the past sleep, but let it sleep on the bosom of Christ, and go out into the irresistible future with Him.

There are experiences like this in each of our lives. We are in despair, the despair that comes from actualities, and we cannot lift ourselves out of it. The disciples in this instance had done a downright unforgivable thing; they had gone to sleep instead of watching with Jesus, but He came with a spiritual initiative against their despair and said - “Arise and do the next thing.”
If we are inspired of God, what is the next thing? To trust Him absolutely and to pray on the ground of His Redemption.

Never let the sense of failure corrupt your new action.

Los Chicos de La Cruceta The guys from La Cruceta

Muchas Gracias.
This past Saturday the guys from Calvary Chapel Surco (La Cruceta) went with us to Villa Maria. They did mimes and a clown show for the children. It was a good time and for those of us from Surco that go every week it was nice to just kind of sit back and enjoy. The magicians from California were there too. They presented the gospel with their show too. Thanks so much to everyone that participated. We hope that the guys from Surco will be able to join us again soon.

The Will of God La Voluntad de Dios

“…that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2

But how may we know God’s will? That is not always easy. Yet the difficulty is not in Him. He does not wish us to grope painfully in the dark. Nay, He is ever giving us many signs and hints as to the way we should take, too delicate to be perceived by the coarse eye of sense, but clear enough to those who are divested of self-will and pride, and only anxious to know and do the holy and acceptable and perfect will of God. It is a mistake to seek a sign from heaven; to run from counselor to counselor; to cast a lot; or to trust to some chance coincidence. Not that God may not reveal His will thus; but because it is hardly the behavior of a child with its Father. There is a more excellent way. Let the heart be quieted and stilled in the presence of God; weaned from all earthly distractions and worldly ambitions. Let the voice of the Son of God hush into perfect rest the storms that sweep the lake of the inner life, and ruffle its calm surface.

Let the whole being be centered on God Himself. And then, remembering that all who lack
wisdom are to ask it of God, and that Jesus Christ is already made unto us wisdom, let us quietly appropriate Him, in that capacity, by faith; and then go forward, perhaps not conscious of any increase of wisdom, or able to see far in front; but sure that we shall be guided, as each new step must be taken, or word spoken, or decision made. It is an immense help in any difficulty to say, “I take thee, Lord Jesus, as my wisdom,” and to do the next thing, nothing doubting; assured the He will not permit those how trust in Him to be ashamed.
